Free anti-virus software - help plz

I have just recieved a notifictaion from AVG that from the end of December they will be charging for their anti-virus software and I wondered if anyone knew of any other good free anti-virus software I could use?

  • Are you sure? I recently had a notification that the old version won't be supported for much longer and I needed to upgrade to 7.5 (free). I've done so and haven't been nagged since.

    I quite agree this has been discussed on numerous occassions and absolutely no-where on the AVG pop-up can I see where it says AVG will be charging only and no free AV?

    GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007.

    Am i the only one that uses Avast ? i tried AVG and never liked it,half the time it wouldnt update for me,yet Avast always updates and never had any problems with it .

    Yes, didn't you get the memo? "Let's all fool imho to be the only one to use Avast" ;) Personally I use McAfee Enterprise which does quite a good job.
