I have a similar number of linked addresses too.

In my case, it was due to the odd fact that my address was not physically reproduceable in the different boxes for a) experian b) the post office, c) the council and d) the bank.

They all had different ideas on how it should be formatted. A real computer says no situation. So it took many attempts to find addresses that would link in my bank account, electoral roll and so on in one record.

It doesn't seem to cause any trouble for 'ordinary' credit checks for a couple of things I've done, but I've not had a go at trying to raise a mortgage with it.

Watalie - I'm sorry we weren't very helpful when you got in touch.

When a lender carries out a credit check they only see data at each address once, so the duplication on the version of the report you see has no impact.

As others have said, this issue appears to be largely confined to addresses that are quoted in varying formats. Perhaps there's something we can do to address this - we'll have a look. But as I've said, it's really not something to be concerned about - as long as all of the addresses shown relate to you.

  • Hi all,

Following a conversation where I intended to end my credit expert account my credit rating dropped from 960 to 431, its now 223.

I was linked to over 250 addresses but thats down to 229 as some got outdated. One of the addresses doesnt even exist but Halifax couldnt care less when I requested correct personal information about myself be stored by phone and in branch.

In searching for a mortgage several banks did full searches as I hadnt specifically told them not to, First Bank did 4 searches on the same day as well as checked for opening a current account, TWICE. HSBC checked a mortgage twice on the same day too. Barclays accidentally opened up two accounts last year (I wanted one) but their error still shows up on my records.

Anyway, we're her about the stupid linked addresses issue that contributes to crushing credit ratings and destroying opportunities, anyone beat 254?

I would have thought it would be the postcodes which would be paramount in this!! There may be 67 variations of the 6 addresses but only 6 postcodes!!

the flat we live in has two totally different addresses for the same flat - 2 Station Road, and 5 Railway Avenue. The postcodes are different, too!

    ???

    How????!!!!!
  • When going through a credit application with a lender etc, you might state your address as this:

    123a The Street,
    The Village,
    The Town,
    The County,
    AB12 3CD

But their computer systems might bring it up as this (especially if they just put in the postcode and number):

    123 The Street,
    Flat A,
    The Town,
    AB12 3CD

So same address really, but it doesn't actually match, hence the linked address.
Several years ago, a job I had involved taking details from people and entering them into the system - we were always told to enter it exactly as we were told and not to let the system override it.

    How????!!!!!

Because our flat is on the corner of 2 roads. the entrance to the flats is on one road, and the more commonly-used address. but the building also has an address for the other road. Some of our windows overlook that road, but there's no door in to the building.
