Paper Share Certificates

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone can help.
I was looking at https://www.gettingpersonal.co.uk the other day and came across a gift idea where you could buy somebody 1 share in a company - for an extortionate amount of johnny cash!
Do there still exist stockbrokers where you can buy shares in a company and have the share certificate posted to you as opposed to having the shares deposited with the company on trust? The object of this would be a gift rather than an investment
Thanks in advance
Rich

This is common gift with Footie Club shares.0

Yes most brokers still do it
Eg
HL
Natwest
Barclays
Look under paper share dealing on their websites - more expensive but if its a gift thats not the point.0 -

cheerfulcat wrote:Yes. Selftrade offer a certificated service. It's £12.50 commission + 0.5% tax for the trade and another £10 for the certificate so it mightn't actually work out that much cheaper ( though if you get referred by an existing customer both get £50, which might cover your costs?
The Selftrade referral scheme only kicks in if you are buying a minimum of £500 worth of shares though - which if RichyRich is buying only one share is very unlikely

Sorry, Sunil, you are quite right; I forgot about that! In which case it will probably be no cheaper to buy through a broker, and with the gift arrangement you get a nice box and a presentation certificate.0

Thx so much everyone, it's more common than I'd realised. I'll have a look round.
Cheers,
