£293 Vodafone Bill

It seems like a horrible practise praying on children like this and it amazes me this business is not illegal.
Contracts cannot be taken out by children.
How on earth does Bluebolt, or anyone else, know that the adult that signed the contract has given the phone to a minor?
I really am sounding harsh, but it is the responsibility of the contract holder to ensure that the phone is being used how he/her, the contract holder, would wish.0 -
Just to clarify it would be boltblue we would file the court case against and not Vodafone. Is this really not worth pursuing?
My sister has paid £293 for ringtones she has not received. Not that we want them but this may entitle us to a refund? It seems like a horrible practise praying on children like this and it amazes me this business is not illegal.
Children are not old enough to have a phone contract so the company would assume the account holder and user is over the age of eighteen.
Some mobile phone companies will put a monthly credit limit on the phone which would help not sure whether vodaphone do this.
Unfortunately this is an expensive lesson learnt. I think unless you can find a way to restrict the costs I just keep the phone, pay the monthly rental till the contract expires and get your sister a new pay as you go phone.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

My mum handles my sisters mobile bills. She's only 14 and was recently diagnosed with autism so she is incapable of handling it herself. Every time my mum was topping up her phone the credit would be instantly spent despite my sister next to never using the phone.
My mum isn't very well versed in mobile technology/pricing but eventually after paying £40 within one month thought something was wrong so contacted Vodafone to find out where the money was going. Vodafone would either tell her they where unable to provide this information or would direct to another number that played adverts on a loop. Eventually after several hours of attempting to find out one of the staff told her this problem would be sorted by signing up for a contract in which she will be paying a fixed rate of £15/month. My mum took this up.
Two weeks later my mum calls me up to fix my sisters phone as it was unable to make calls despite my sister as per usual barely using it. I checked the balance, 294 minutes remaining, £293 outstanding. The next day we call Vodafone and they tell us my sister has signed a contract with bluebolt. I have of course been through her phone and there are no texts sent from bluebolt (there was one from jammster). My sister says she has been trying to download wallpapers and ringtones from this site but has yet to successfully download one. She is completly unaware of the concept that these things may not be free. Vodafone expect us to pay the bill. Boltblue has yet to reply to our emails.
What should we do?
Make a small courts claim? Cancel the direct debit?
Your advise is much appreciated.
Direct debit ? I was under the impression that to cancel these premium text "services" one just had to send a text saying "stop""The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Yes but we may cancel our direct debit with Vodafone.
We where unable to cancel this way as Vodafone had blocked the phone. We've also yet to receive any texts from this company otherwise we would have been aware of this sooner and asked them to stop.
We finally got it cancelled this afternoon through Vodafone.0 -

You can try reporting them to Phonepayplus they are the regulator for this sort of thing."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Wait a minute...
Contracts cannot be taken out by children.
How on earth does Bluebolt, or anyone else, know that the adult that signed the contract has given the phone to a minor?
I've yet to hear of an adult signing up for Jammster, bluebolt or any such sites. Yet it was common practise amongst my school years back in the day and within my sisters at present. These sites advertise/cater to children.
As for children having phones tied on contracts I agree it is a terrible idea. My mum did not know this and did not seek my advise but was advised by the vodafone support teams as a solution to her credit problem. They will have no doubt earned a nice commission. They knew of this situation as well as myself or anyone within this thread yet advised my mum to take this contract. Hence why i shoulder them with some blame.0 -
My mum was naive but the common opinion of this thread blaming her rather than the company selling ringtones to kids for £295 or the support staff who misled her with appalling advise that led to this loss is a bit absurd and I hope for our sake the courts see it differently.0

So you've asked whether you can go to the courts, EVERYONE has said no, and you're still going to do it?
I wish you wellOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Kids shouldn't be using contracts phone, so the companies selling are not in the wrong, It's the 14 year old to blame and the mum for allowing a 14 year old to have it.
You will be laughed out of court lol.0 -

Vodaphone or Bluebolt/Boltblue?
Be very sure who you are taking to court.
Please take advice before going to court.0
