About to run out of emergency credit on my electric
I'm about to run out of emergency credit on my electricity meter & dont get paid till the morning. The customer services at Npower are closed on a Sunday & I have disabled children.
Not normally a problem but had unexpected bank charges that meant I ran out of money.
I dont smoke, drink, do drugs or go out so my money hasnt been wasted on any of that.:(

If its only til the morning can't you just cope without? Sorry if that sounds harsh but what has the world come to if we can't live 12 hours without electricity. Just do everything you'd do in a power cut (torch/candles, keep freezer closed, etc). Obviously if your children have needs that include electrical equipment then this doesn't help though.
Can you make the last little bit last long enough? Switch off computer, tv and heating (wrap up warm) just to keep the lights on?0 -
If none of your family, friends will help knowing you have kids then that says a lot about them0

JD, I have switched off everything I can, we are all electric so I cant cook for the children without it running out, if it was just me I'd cope.
David, all my friends are in the same position as me, no money, and there I have got no family to ask.0 -
If you have disabled children and their disability requires a permanent supply then you should have an oil-powered back up generator. If this is not necessary then buy some more power tomorrow.
There tends to be a minimum of £5 emergency. That should be more than enough for days of background use. You did just cut down to emergency use when you slipped to emergency, didn't you?
In future, to avoid such hic-coughs, you should get a credit meter installed.0 -

I'm not too sure what npower could do though if you rang them up? I'm sure someone will be able to clarify whether they can essentially loan you some money to top up. I know it is possible to send some remotely to the key but they normally require a few top ups at the paypoint before the message is picked up. And this is normally done when they owe you money for whatever reason.
In this case they would need to send someone out to put some money on the meter. They would do this if there was a problem with the meter but not just because you have no money. Don't mean to sound harsh, but they aren't a bank.
Have you tried the specific number for the prepayment dept? Try calling 0845 070 4853 and wait until the person has finished all of the message. Most energy companies have an out of hours call centre so it may put you through to them or give you an alternative number.
Tbh, I think they will only be able to recommend you borrowing some money from somewhere else.
I hope you manage to get this sorted out.0 -
Thanks for the phone number echo. I'm going to try it now.0
