How can people forget about tax when your sent a reminder at least a few weeks before hand. Same with most insurance companies, I'm always getting crap though the door when my renewal is up.What is pi? Where did it come from?0

Think that is explained in the OP. No excuse but an explanation of why they didn't get the reminders. How can people forget about tax when your sent a reminder at least a few weeks before hand.
Good that you got things sorted so quickly and provided your car passes the MOT tomorrow you should be legal again soon.I didnt realise (I moved in with my girlfriend a few months ago and didnt sort out having my post forwarded till the other day) its lapsed literally months ago.
However, no one has mentioned it, but don't be surprised if a fine and claim for back tax isn't also trying to catch you up!! Unless your car is declared "off road" to the DVLA by a SORN notice as I understand the law you can still be done for no tax, very soon I believe the same will apply to insurance as well. From Direct Gov.
Don't forget to send the V5 and your DL to Swansea for your address details to be changed. If you have not made a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and your vehicle is not taxed, an automatic penalty of £80 will apply. Your vehicle could also be clamped and taken away from you.0 -
Ian,
Honestly an £80 fine is the least of my worries. I assume if Id been pulled any time in the last few months then Id have had the car impounded & maybe even been given a ban. £80 is a small price to pay for my disorganisation.:oDon't forget to send the V5 and your DL to Swansea for your address details to be changed.
I was going to ask about this...
Ive no idea what this V5 form looks like. Is it my ownership papers or my car log book or something?
Im so useless at car stuff!:(

Just posted this on another thread, but as you were thinking about using the Tart Alert, I found this which seems to make it a bit easier - https://www.resave.co.uk It's like tart alert, but allows you put as many reminders in as you like, you can edit or delete them, and you get an email reminder to remind you to compare. It's free as well. Hope you find it useful.0
