Looking like either 5.5 hours at £40/hour, or 4 hours at £55/hour. The latter is outrageous for an independent garage, so it must be the former.
I'm guessing you live in the south?0 -
There's also VAT to consider while you're all arguing over price.0

starter is 25-40 quid from scrappy or about the same to have repaired by auto lecky, wich would of been my option when if it had been me, he rung said as i got to take out anyway i would of said i'd pick id up and take it to be repaired. you paid over the odds there slightly. he probably made £30-40 profit off the starter alone. he probably charged you his motor factors RETAIL price and added 10% + vat where as depending on his arrangment with motor factors the base being trade plus vat of if he is a loyal customer cost plus 10% but i rekon he stiffed you bet he didnt show you his reciept for it to say hey im not making nothing on it.0

He told me about six/seven hours work was involved, and from the checks I've done on the net about a clutch change on this particular model of car, that seems reasonable.
What else you can't put a price on is the fact that he can do it quickly and I couldn't go driving far hunting for bargains in it as it's only likely to cause more damage.
I know I could have got it done cheaper, but at this price I don't feel I've unduly been ripped off.
I'm from the north but the going rate for all our local independent garages is at least £40 per hour.In memory of Chris Hyde #8670 -

Cor, wish you lived near me.:DI ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
