I think this is where I need to post this thread otherwise perhaps some kind person would tell me where to post it..........
Ive had 2 telephone calls in the past week from non english speaking people, each time they confirm my name then start to say about viruses etc etc on computers, the next thing they say is " are you near your computer "...... I smelt a rat immediately and each time I say "Ihave not got a computer and put the phone down".............
Ive always had the same local computer man does anything that I need doing if I have a problem.......
So I telephoned him this morning and told him and he said it has been happening a lot and they call people randomly ........ and they have been known to call themselves Microsoft.........
So using the name microsoft people seem to trust them and then they gain access to your passwords, bank details etc.....I thought I just like to warn other people to be very careful and do not entertain these scammers...........my computer man said that our local police have had several reports of this happening and whilst there isnt much they can do they still like to be told........

Thanks this Scam has been well reported on the forum.

Yeah sometimes they say they're calling from Microsoft, sometimes the antivirus IT department (of the entire world when I asked which division they covered!) and sometimes they reply depending on what you tell them (such as you say 'oh you're from TalkTalk?' etc)
Never trust information given by strangers on internet forums0 -
If you can be bothered just keep them on the phone as long as possible (NEVER respond to a request to "press 1234 etc on your phone" or you might end up paying for the call) - respond enough to make them think you're helping but do nothing "Oh I'm just booting up my computer" "sorry it's crashed, have to re-boot" etc.0
