trip to Manchester airport

I am organising a trip to the airport and back and called the taxi to find out how much is it going to cost me to get from my town, which is only 20 miles from to the airport. They said it's going to be £35 to get there and £70!!! the return. I am now thinking about driving and leaving my car at Manchester airport. Please could you give me some advice and may be recommend airport parking which is not very expensive and convenient. I have to leave my car for 10 days. Thank you

I'm in the same position as you...I'm a bit north of Crewe, right near the M6 so very straightforward joureny but taxis are a rip-off, especially if you need unsociable hours which is what I'm guessing your £70 return is!
I've uesd several of the Manchester airports - purple parking, jet parks, I've used the APH page, or Manchester Airport own pages to find the best deal at the time. You'll easily be able to park for much less than the cost of the taxi. I've never had any problems with the parking - I always go for one of the ones that's close to the airport (some of them do class as on-site) but not in the multi-storeys themselves. One thing to be aware of is that sometimes it can take a little while to check in, and then when you get your shuttle bus, if you're flying from T2 that's usually the last drop-off and then you have a bit of a walk to get into it. When flying from T2 I always aim to be parked 45mins before I want to be in the airport to cover all of that and not feel rushed

My main worry is the early flight at 7.50am. I believe it's a terminal 1. I guess I have to be there at 5ish if I have to allow myself plenty of time to find it, and it will be very dark, how safe is at that time and so on. Do you usually leave your key? Thanks

Last time I parked we left at car around 5am...was much busier than you'd expect! And well lit so no worries. The only time we ever had any kind of hiccup was once when they were doing some major construction work and one of the cotract workers had moved a diversion sign!
In some car parks you hand your keys over as they move the car for you. You park in a car park near their reception, but they then move it to their secure area. When you come back your car will have been moved to a waiting area for you so it's easy to find. Again, never had a problem with that. In fact the one time we went to one where we parked and kept our keys, I'd not realised I'd left the indicator switched on (didnt show once engine turned off) and we got back after a delayed flight to a flat battery and a wait for the RAC!

Have you looked at an airport hotel & parking, not sure how this works for a family, but we have done this as a couple for early flights, i think we paid about £69 for the Crown Plaza with 14 nights parking, the other time we paid £55 for the Raddison & about £50 for 14 days parking at Airparks Handforth Dean, We booked the Raddison via Holiday Extras it was the mystery hotel.

Also have a look at train + hotel (depending on your return flight time) - you may be able to book cheapy train tickets in advance, check holidayextras and laterooms for hotel prices.

The problem is my early flight at 7.50. I have to be at parking at 5 o'clock... I got a quote, parking can cost me 29.99 for 8 days which is much cheaper then the taxi.

You should still check the train. Trans Pennine Express run a skeleton service all night long on their routes in Manchester Airport, so you might be able to catch the train. I regularly used to travel there by early train from Sheffield for 7am flights to Ireland.
