Regular investment Stocks ISA

This is going to ramble.... sorry

I am looking at my options for the new tax year and I am looking at the regular investment stocks ISA so I can invest in a fund or two.

I have looked the Farmers Mutual one (£25 min) can someone give me to some others too look at (other than L&G their min too high for me at the mo being £50).

As indicated looking at £25-30 per month with as low charges as possible. (preferably no entry charge and annul no more than 1.5%)

There are lots out there and there is nothing like real experience to be a guide.

My only aim on this is to boost my cash savings (have finally started a pension recently and have investments in shares directly but not in an ISA as the total invested is less than £10, 000 and half that is in an already tax efficient scheme the chances I will beat the tax allowence in any year is minimal and the cost and charges in an ISA wrapper make it too expensive.)

A bit of portfolio balancing is what I am looking for in the very long term.

Not putting anymore into a pension, I already contribute the max allowed under company scheme, and this money I may need to get my mitts on short term so locking it away where I can't get at it is folly.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Very difficult to answer based on the information given. I assume the product you are talking about is the NFU Isa

    http://www.nfumutual.co.uk/you/tax-efficient-returns/stocks-shares-isa.htm

This only invests in their own funds which may not be much good compared to some of the best fund managers or trackers out there. Just found some performance tables and almost every one of their funds has underperformed the average so even a lowly tracker would have beaten them.

More worryingly there is absolutely no mention of any charges that I can see on their website so I expect they might be pretty high. Before you do anything I would suggest you ask them the costs and post their reply here.

The minimum monthly payment with most S&S ISAs is £50, below this the costs of admin would outweigh advantages to the company so I would expect any below £50 would have much higher charges.

You could choose to invest £50 every other month using something like Hargreaves Lansdown. You can amend the DD each month online which would give you the £25. They generally have 0% initial charge.

Depending on the shares you hold and the number of companies you may be worth considering moving them into a S&S ISA buying funds instead. The risks of a single share are very high, you only need to ask those people who had share save schemes with RBS or Halifax.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

NFU prices seem to be 3% initial charge and a TER of anything between 0.56% and 1.65% depending on fund.

    Hi

I am more after other things to look at rather than an evaluation of FM's stuff can do that myself did not know their charges have emailed them asking that as it was not clear from the information available without downloading something, clearly somethinfg too hide.

It maybe of course I do this through someone elses ISA wrapper (or not at all) just buy funds as I say just looking at (and costing) the options.

  • Invesco Perpetual have a vast range of managed funds with a min monthly investment of £20 and if you invest via commshare or similar site there is no initial fee. The only catch is that there is a min fund value so you would have to keep up the monthly payments until you clear the minimum.

Interactive investor's (iii.co.uk) S&S ISA has no annual admin charges and allows investment in most funds from £20 per month with its portfolio builder. If you really want to minimise charges, take a look at a low cost tracker lke HSBC's FTSE all share tracker - has no initial charge and a TER of just 0.27%.

No connection with them other than being a happy customer.

If there are other questions you have then if you let us know we may be able to help. Evaluation of the FM product seemed quite useful as it highlighted something that you (and I) hadn't seen.

I didn't download anything to find their prices - I simply thought it would help as it didn't seem to fit in with what you were looking for.

I also had a look for it and couldnt see, on their site it says you have to email/call them to get a copy of their prospectus so they don't make it easy!

I found it under Fund prices, Fund Information Downloads - all it then required was to click on the pdf document.

However it seems that the OP isn't interested in this.
