  • i have never had problems with changing coppers at the bank any amount, as long as they are in the right amount in the change bags that you can get from them.....so i can not see why they should not except it as payment for you cc as at the end of the day it is legal tender....

if they get stroppy about it..ask if you could speak to a manager about it.. ..the only reason why i can think that they will not except it.... because its more work for the cashier.. at the end of their shift...

but if that was me i would stick to my guns.... especially if you have an account with them....

It depends on a number if things, The banks policy, if its bagged, how busy the bank is and if the cashier can be bothered.

If you bag it in the right bags and go in when it quiet i doubt you will have a problem. You would probably be best doing 2 transactions. get the money paid into your account and then pay the bill from your account a couple of days later.

The other option is take it to the Post Office. Again if there not busy Ive never had problems I went to venice a couple of years back (Before my lightbuld moment) and took in a pile of pennies (all bagged) and the cashier in the post office didnt mind taking them and converting them to Euros (worked out about 1000euros worth.)

Once you have the cash you could then just pay your bill.

leni - don't worry - the bank will accept it - they will probably just weigh the bags - they do it all the time for business customers. May not make you too poular with other people in the queue though.

I bag up my coins when they reach £100 and pay them into my Natwest account - never had a problem.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.
  • we got refused to credit our savings acount with coins eventhough they were all sorted it was in 5 Bags.

The girl at Norwich & Peterbourgh said the banks safe isnt big enough !!!!

I then got home and rang the manager as she was at lunch and was informed if i come back to branck they will find room to take my money

The other option is to try your corner shop (if you have one anymore!). The guy down the road loves getting our change and is happy to swap it for notes for us.

Depends which bank, I know Halifax will only accept 5 bags even if paid into an account so I use DPs Barclays account as they accept any being paid into an account.

If you go when it's quieter they sometimes bend the rules.

My local shop also takes the bigger change but not usually the 1s and 2s.
One day I might be more organised...........

our halifax wont take more than 5 bags at a time

last weekend we put in our last bags of change. we actually had 6 bags remaining. we asked if they wouldnt mind taking a 6th bag and the lady turned round to my OH and said sorry we only take 5 bags at a time. we dont have the space ad i thought WHAT!?! well lets hope no one else comes in with change that day or theyll have to refuse them!!! (i think not!)
  • Natwest only accept full bags of whatever denomination. Don't know if there is a limit on number of bags per day though.

  • My bank (although it is a small branch) will only except bags of the total value of £5 a day..which is hardly anything.

Have a go though, always worth having a go...
