I've counted my 1p, 2p and other change jar and have £37
I want to pay this off my credit card, if I go inot the bank will they accept £37 worth of change to pay a bill?

It is my understanding (someone correct me if I am wrong) that someone who you owe money to is only required to accept upto 20p in each copper coin. however, some may accept as a gesture of goodwill (i don't see why this is the rule anyway - it's all money!) if not, banks are required to change monies if requested so do that and then pay your bill with the notes they give you.0

If it's bagged in the appropriate amounts they should but they might only take so much per day.0

No reason why not, though they may insist that the coins are pre-counted into bags, which they will supply.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

This is why I'm unsure, I heard that banks now only accept a few pounds worth of change a day per customer?
I could take it to the weight machine at asda but then I loose a few pence and haven't got time really!

It might depend on the bank you are paying the bill at. Mine has a sign saying they will only accept 3 bags of coins per person per day.
I once tried to pay for a newspaper with a 20p, a 10p and 5 x 2p. The man very rudely threw the 2p coins back at me saying "I don't want those". So I walked off with the newspaper anyway. Its not like I was trying to pay the whole 40p in coppersDealing with my debt and my weight

Hi I know this is slightly off topic (and I apologise for that) but when a friend had bailiifs visiting we thought it would be a very amusing idea to save up loads (and I mean loads!) of pennies and 2p's and pay him with that just to see the look on his face infortunately she never managed to save enough!
I can't see why a bank wouldn't accept it, like op said it's all money, and they can easily weigh it and sort it with machines.official dfw nerd club member no 214
Proud to be dealing with my debts!;)
Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!0 -
As long as cash is a payment option for your credit card then there is no reason why this shouldnt be in 1 & 2p's. Even if cash isnt a payment option, you can always pay it into your bank account and write a cheque or do a bank transfer against it.
I'm not sure about HBOS but the only problem would be that most banks/building societies will only take a maximum of 2 - 4 bags of change over the counter in one visit even if you have counted it out in the correct denominations (for reasons other than sheer laziness they assure me - I'm not so sure!!). If you get a nice cashier though and they arent too busy they might still take more....
The post office will take as much change as you've got but I think that you need to have an A+L account to pay it into.0
