Yes, t'is that time of year, again! :j

If anyone is just reading this thread for the first time, believe me, these hampers go down VERY well. I did my first one's last year and one of these was for my OH's mum - I filled it with allsorts of goodies, including a framed pic of me and OH and she was over-the-moon! My OH was chuffed too, because he could see she was genuinely impressed and she kept going on about how much thought had gone into it - which it had! Needless to say, it was lots of gifts in one and when considering that I made several, the costs were kept low because I kept buying multi-packs and splitting them.

Ideas for lining the baskets: I ran sheets of tissue paper through my strip-cut shredder (you need to keep or fold several sheets together to give it thickness to go through the shredder), a sheet of gift wrap over the top of scrunched up paper/plastic, towel, bathrobe or knitted scarf.

Also, don't just think that you have to use baskets - I have picked up some beautiful chrome 'fruit' type bowls and other such ceramic bowls which can be used for just the same effect, if not better. These can even be filled with pot pourri and then arrange items on top.

I'm so glad you did! :) I've never been so inspired by a thread before :j

A few Christmases ago I bought hat boxes for my SIL and husband, (he didn't want a hat box btw lol, but I liked the look of it, plain but with bold stripes and it was handy to chuck all his Christmas toiletries in.) The SIL's one is still in use as she likes hats ;) and I thought I was the inspirational one. Then I found this thread.

I'm truly gobsmacked at the initiative of the posts, and instead of ordering irridescent shredded cellophane from ebay (looked nice and was cheapish but need loads), tissue from ebay, (ditto), and all the other paraphanelia needed, (ebay again lol), I'm going to read through this thread again :). The packaging was costing a fortune.

The hat boxes were similar to these but much bigger, looked sturdier, were about a fiver each from a dept. store and obviously striped ;)

(Not affiliated to that item or seller btw and not sure that link looks right. I'll post and edit if not.)

I'd started this years buying with this from The Range for a young one that likes pink:

    http://www.therange.co.uk/invt/310953

and was going to fill it with odds and ends that a pink-enthusuastic-pre-teen might like, but I'll have another think now lol.

I haven't thanked everyone so I'll pop back and do it later. Unless R.S.I. sets in ;) :rotfl: Thanks again.

Have just been to Tescos and as I am going to do a car care hamper (in a bucket) for my Dad to go with his Top Gear Subscription, I thought I would check out that section - On and end aisle they had some spray bottles (make Grand Prix) I go a car polish/glass cleaner/upholstery cleaner and a dash cleaner - They were priced at £1 and also were buy one get one free (printed on the label) so 4 for £2!! also picked up a 'visor wallet' for his car for 49p and a bag of rags for 24p !! More or less done now at a very modest cost (I am doing him a home made sweetie box (see other thread) with different mints in for him to keep in the car also and the bags of glacier mints are also on offer for half price in Tescos at the moment 54p)

Just can't wait now to start getting my hampers together :j

Arghhhhhhhhh been to poundland, poundworld, 99p store, b+m, au natural, wilkinsons and home and bargain, and not ONE basket could I find *sob* I'm not keen to spend more than £2 on a basket which i know is tight but would rather spend the extra on the present than the basket. Anyone seen them in their stores ????

I did however find a great tool box (will try and upload pic) for the retro sweety box (im doing my dad a Mint n Boiled sweet one) and the good thing about it is, its a double sided one, so has about 30 compartments in it, and doubles as a box for nails etc when the sweeties have been eaten for £1.99 in home and bargain. Hope that helps someone!

EDIT: Yes Kaja I just checked and have seen them - they look great!! Thats where I got the idea for the mint one for my Dad because he loves boiled sweets I have done one side of the 'twin' organiser box with mints, and the other side is hard boiled sweets eg. chocolate limes, blackcurrant and liquorice, fox's glacier fruits etc so that the mint taste doesnt get on everything!!!

Are they on the retro sweety box thread? If so, then possibly? I'm having great fun making my sweety box with all these mints and boiled sweets as we speak! I HEART Christmas!
