I am a little short of time so if anybody can give me a point in the right direction for:

    baskets and
    cellophane and ribbons

I have made my first hamper today (will try to add pics later) and i'd left it until the last minute to get a basket. Luckily Home Bargains had a got a set of 4 dark wood wickers baskets (really decent sizes too) for only £3.99 :j

Just a quickie question, does anyone have any ideas on 'bumping' all the stuff up though? I've stuffed quite a few scrunched up carriers in the bottom, 2 lots of crepe paper on top but cause the stuff in there is quite heavy (mini bottle bubbly, mug and coaster set etc) it keeps sinking down lol

I found this website today might be usefull and looks like good prices

    http://www.candigifts.co.uk/items/product-range/wicker-baskets~trays/baskets-under~1-00/list.htm

postage is quite high unless you can find a friend to order with and split postage costs x

What great fun it is making a hamper for someone. I've just made one for my sister-in-laws birthday.

I bought a bath set which came in a basket from a pound shop (saved the bath stuff for a future present as it didnt match the colour theme I wanted!)...

Put in it some small boxes of lindt chocs (70p from Home Bargains) 2 scented candles (£2 from poundshop), small Boots Spa range bath set (50p from charity shop), chocaholics mug (50p from charity shop) and the rest (sparkling rose wine, horlicks/hot chocolate samples from Sainsburys (all paid for with nectar card points :))

I also got about 2 metres of patterned cellophane, 3 pieces of red crepe paper and some red ribbon plus a small birthday card from a florists, all for £1.50 and giving it a red/pink/cream colour theme.

My mum has been making hampers for birthday and Christmas presents for ages. She's made them for gardeners, chocaholics, pamper themed, beer-lovers. I seem to be following in her footsteps but I think they make great presents :)

    Hi everybody

I have the task of purchasing a pressy for a work mate's 40th birthday. We are only a small group so the budget is about £30.00, but i want to make it a really special pressy and a basket/hamper will be just the thing i think.

I am a little short of time so if anybody can give me a point in the right direction for:

    baskets and
    cellophane and ribbons

I am erring toward a 'pamper' basket - she has young children and rarely gets 'me' time so i think this may just be right up her street.

Sorry if the basket and cellophane question has been asked before - i have just had a quick look through the thread and think the best place for baskets may be pundstretcher, home bargains etc - really stuck with the cellophane though.

    Thank you

    Suebesue
Theres a seller on ebay whos fab for ribbons and cellophane, think their name is flowerhour :)

Hi all, am thinking of making a Chinese food themed basket for Xmas as have seen this cookbook. Was after some ideas of what to put in - any ideas?

So far have thought of the cookbook; chopsticks; fortune cookies; prawn crackers; tins water chestnuts/ beansprouts/ lychees; bag rice; spices such as 5 spice, ginger.

    Don't want to spend a fortune ;) - maybe £15-£20 including book.

    Thanks in advance!!! :D

Lol i wouldnt put tins! they may be very heavy and likely to dent other things in the basket etc if your trying to send it!!!

    how about
    chopsticks
    the book
    fortune cookies
    prawn crackers
    spices
how about a chinese wire strainer? (you know the long flat strainer on a handle)
how abotu a sushi mat? helps you to roll up your own special homemade sushi

also how about iinstead of putting all the other gifts in a basket you could put them into a small/large wok instead (depending on how many is in the family obviously) as this is a main feature fo chinese cooking OR into one of those bamboo steamer thingys - would look effective

Then you could also put a tesco gift token in the bottom for them to go and pick up ingredients when they find a recipe they like in the book

EDITED AGAIN! You could get your gift card and then if you are a crafty card making person - make a chinese inspired card - white with red and black always looks effective i think and decorate it yourself then put the gift token in that - is it china where a red envelope symbolises good luck??

Thanks sammy! Have just been looking at an online chinese cook shop for ingredients and then, like you, thought of a wok :T ! Will investigate this and could maybe pop a few foodies bits in the wok with the book. Thanks again!!! :D

I was thinking of making a food type hamper for my brother for Christmas. I might look at doing something chinese rather then italian as I had originally thought. He doesn't do much chinese cooking so a book and some ingredients could be good. If I think of ideas to put in it will let you know - otherwise may just pinch yours:rotfl:

Snap, I thought of Italian and then saw the brilliant bargain book and thought again! Bit different, I know I'd like it as a present anyway :rotfl: I'd really like to find a Chinese supermarket to get the foodie bits a bit cheaper. Will let you know how I get on :D
