Queuing for sales - TV documentary

Dear all,
I'm writing from Maverick TV and I'm working across a new Channel 4 strand for deaf and disabled first time directors.
One of our directors is very interested in store sales and those that will queue up to get their hands on the bargains first. Are you someone who will camp out overnight, rain or shine to be the first into a store or shopping mall? Will you get up at the crack of dawn with a Christmas hang over to buy the product you’ve had your eye on at a knock down price? Are you already planning your strategy for this year’s Boxing Day sales?
If this is you or you or anyone you know I’d love to chat. Please get in touch by either e-mail d.davis@mavericktv.co.uk or tel – 0207 874 6676
I look forward to hearing from you,
Danni

Hi Danni (good name by the way...)
I do it for the Sony Centre sales, and virgin megastore if they have items like the cheap xbox.
But it has to be something I really really want...0 -
Hi Danni,
I think you need permission from a moderator for this kind of post. its normally granted so shouldn't be a problem.
Kind regards

Man, when i worked for next. The summer sales started at 6am. I wasnt very pleased, and expected a little turn out. But every year ppl would queue up??? Why??? would be a line of 100 ppl outside b4 we opened.A smile and manners doesnt cost any thing0

Yep! Go outside any Next on boxing day. Madness! I used to queue outside Richer Sounds for their clearance sales which were 2 Sundays a year, but as stock was very limited, you had to be there first for what you wanted.0

I bet they make anyone taking part in this look like a complete a*se. They'll portray them as a bunch of saddos with nothing better to do. One to avoid methinks

I have done this once at a local dixons loads of things were half price but only 10 of each item. I queued from 9pm for a Tv & Video Camera. But some people were there from 10am the day before for the laptops. And the guy in front of me was there for a FREEVIEW box
.
This was going back aroud 4 years ago and tbh unless its a super bargain you got no chance of me doing it again.0 -

They are anyway, arent they ?0 -
I'd rather leave these people to it quite frankly, normally buy most stuff online anyway when I want it not when a "sale" is on, so this is possibly an area to concentrate on, cos I almost guarantee the amazing half price offers they will have isn't far off the current price you could get the same item online. People buy stuff in the sales for the simple reason it's in the sales therefore must be a bargain! I used to work in a major city and would frequently walk round the shops at lunchime and without trying to would notice the prices of things, where they were, how quick they were selling, price fluctuations.... as soon as the sales turn up it's stuff that hasn't been in the store for MONTHS, and the 'was' price is higher than it had actually been on sale for ages. I understand the 28 day thing, but thats generally speaking a loophole to claim its a massive bargain. A select brainless few fall for these spectacular offers though, and Im sure we all know people who have rails of stuff bought in the sales with the sale ticket and price tag still on for weeks, months, years later...
There's no doubt its clever marketing by the stores but for me it's absolute hell on earth to go shopping at the best of times, never mind with people physically fighting over jeans or shoes (I've seen this!) occasionaly spending money they really don't have to buy something they may never even wear. I think I'll stay in bed thanks very much

I always go to the Next sales- I love their clothes and getting them half price is a great plan!
I always get to the store about 30 mins before it opens- the boxing day one usually starts at 4:30- and spend loads on clothes for my 2 children, my husband and myself. I usually end up getting most of the kids clothes for the whole year.
If this makes me a saddo then a saddo I am!:smileyheaRachel xx0
