Safety Deposit Box !!

Guys currently I have a safety deposit box & an envelope containing deeds etc with the Ulster Bank. Just received notification that they will be starting to put up the fees to £100 + vat per annum for the box & £30 + vat for the envelope. Does anybody know of other banks who offer safe keeping & their charges for this service, I would be very very reluctant to keep this stuff at home. Any information would be great , many thanks Harpo:exclamati
Had this problem a fair time ago with Natwest they charged me a nominal £4 to look after my envelope with deeds and will, but wrote increasing the charge out of all proportion, I keep the contents at home now.
As someone else pointed out I understand that the full sets of deeds are not as important as they once were, in many cases they have been replaced with a simple certificate, A friend of mine was most upset when he bought an older house and asked for the full deeds, he was told they are no longer necessary and had been destroyed, I can quite understand why he was angry!0 -

It might be cheaper to take out a very small mortgage and let the Bank or Building Society keep them.
Not sure what the minimum level is, but when my dad got close to end of their repayment mortgage, the bank wrote to him suggesting that he left £100 on the mortgage for as long as he liked, and the bank would store the deeds for free (well - the interest on £100)We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
