won a holiday

Strepsy,
As a new user I find that rather offensive, as I can only conclude I am included in that.
I don't post much on this site as there are only a few offers that interest me. Suggesting that I perhaps have benefit to gain from making this company get more customers is rediculous.
Unlike you I have actually been on one of these holidays and found the reps to be a royal pain in the !!!!, however once they knew we werent interested they left us alone. You haven't been on one, how can you possibly say it is an open and shut case? what an arrogant attitude.
I have absolutely no connection to the company at all, as my handle may suggest I am in the aviation industry, a pilot to be precise and the only link I could possibly have is that some of their winners might fly on the aircraft I fly.
However having being on their holiday I really wouldn't think they do.
The poster asked for opinions, I gave mine and so did others. You comment of: "If there were any good comments from regular MSErs then it might be worth taking on board their opinion." seems to suggest that only seasoned posters have opinions of value.
What a shame some boards are populated by people such as youself.
You have no grounds on which to call this a open and shut case.

When I enter competitions, and it asked what is the family income, there is a good chance that it is for one of these scam holidays, I just click the lowest income there is - They then won't bother you, as you can't afford their prices - unless you want to take the 'holiday'. There is usually an option at the bottom saying 'I'd rather not say'. don't bother with this, as they will assume that you earn wads of cash, and so will still aim at you.0

couldn't agree more!
It is not a free holiday if you have to pay towards it  . Plus a free holiday should not have terms and conditions related to your personal circumstances..i.e home-owner and married.

I really don't see why you need to be offended. If a regular poster posts and you wonder whether it's genuine you can look at their thanks and at their profile and check out their other posts to make an informed decision about their advice. With a new user it's impossible to verify if they're genuine or not.
Anyway, to get back on topic. Did you bother ringing the freephone number Beany?I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
Ha! just had the phone call!!! Sexy voiced young lady[allegedly] When I was told I had not won the first prize but as its the companies anniversary so they are giving you a holiday for 4 Blah Blah. I very politely told her that I was not interested she was very off and slammed down the phone.
Oh well some you win****
As to the righteous indignation of the new poster. Who would He believe, a newbie talking a company line or some of the older posters on these threads.
Sorry if that offends just an observation.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Hmmm, you don't see many airline pilots on the money saving boards do you?.........:smileyheaMagenta0

Thanks for the info!
Sorry you got your hopes up. Don't give up entering holiday competitions. There are plenty on this forum. I have never won a full length holiday, but have won several short breaks. The nicest being about 18 months ago to a luxury country house hotel in the lake district with five course dinners included.
Hope you win a genuine prize sometime.0 -
As a result of a call from Club Lacosta telling me I'd "won" a holiday. I am booked in to see them on Saturday. Will I be going?
Lets put it this way, in my opinion the noodles at LingsCars are the exception to the rule
Its not even worth going to get the vouchers they offer you for attending their presentation.0 -
I've had this call today.
I'm considering going to get the vouchers as hubby gets free petrol paid by the company car.
What are these things like as I have never been to one?Not in debt at the moment, but been there in the past and realise I'm the kind of person who could easily fall back into it with the self destructing spending button so making sure I keep on top of being a good girl.

I have been a member of CLub La Costa (i.e. owned timeshare) since 1999. At that point it was a "traditional" timeshare in that you owned a set week at a set property.
More recently CLC has moved over to various points systems. I am a member of one called Vacations Club where I have 2050 points. This usually gets me a minimum of 2 weeks holiday (accommodation only). I have been to CLC or affiliated properties in Rhodes (twice, same place), Crete, South Africa, a Canalboat in the UK (booked again for next year), Wales, Spain - Malaga and Tenerife (also booked in here for this Christmas).
The maintenance fee for the year 2007 is £600 (up from about £350 when we joined). I am reasonably happy with what I pay and the availablility and quality of accommodation. There is a forum for members (https://www.clcmembers.co.uk) where you can get information pro and anti CLC. Also there is the crimeshare website which usually has stuff on CLC - all anti!
I agree with Avionyx re the "hardsell" experience and I have been through these presentations in various countries for various incentives. Most recently we spent our last morning in Florida at a presentation, without such a hard sell, signed up, but then cancelled when we got home. We did intend to purchase but circumstances and priorities changed and we were within the 14 day cooling off period. If you know you just want the freebie then stick to your guns.
I believe that the UK "selling" bits of CLC use very hardsell tactics and that what they are currently selling, if it is a holiday ownership club with a term of 36 months or less, is specifically designed so that timeshare laws (to protect the consumer) do not apply. Also, either do not sign anything you do not understand, have not read, or do not want, or get a solicitor to look at it first.
Laws, and whether you can cancel, are different depending on the country where the contract is signed in (or under which laws/jurisdiction it is signed). I have timeshare bought in Scotland under Scottish law which is mine "in perpetuity" so my son can inherit this when I die. Much timeshare is for a fixed period and cannot be inherited.
Like I said earlier, if you want the freebie, go but stick to you guns and leave all forms of payment behind; if you want timeshare - do your own research!
