please help.
I've just had a phone call from one of the companies that I signed up for from quidco or pigsback on the newsletter things. They have said that I have won a holiday for 4 to spain or greece. I have been given a free phone number (0800). It is a club la costa holiday. Is it a scam or should i ring them and give the ref number?
Sorry if this is the wrong place but I quite fancy a free hol but it sounds too good to be true!!
Thanks Beany x

Wow, congrats. Hope someone can advise.
They might know more on the Competitions board though.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -

Seem to have found the website. http://www.clublacosta.com/index/ See what you can find, and be cautious. If they want you to attend some sort of presentation first forget it.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0

If the phonecall is free give it a ring and listen carefully to the terms and conditions. If it requires you to make some kind of payment for the prize it's a scam. Also if the phonecall is a premium rate phone number it is also a scam.
If it's a timeshare company hoping to sell you a timeshare you may still be able to get a decent holiday. My parents won one of those and they had to go to a seminar which lasted a whole afternoon (with a free buffet) and afterwards they were given the hard sell to buy a timeshare. They stuck to their guns and kept saying no. The rest of the week was free to do whatever they wanted.
You might want to ask on the comps board as they are really clued up on stuff like this. Although I'm usually on the comps board and I think they would say the advice I have given is accurate2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
Was this GetMeATicket by any chance?
My wife had a call like this a few weeks ago. She was told she'd won a holiday to either Tenerife or Costa Del Sol but they wanted £29.00+ per person booking fee for her to take advantage of her 'prize'. My wife reported them to Pigsback. Pigsback said they had received several complaints and, as the contract with GetMeATicket was due for renewal soon, they would probable not renew it. Pigsback asked GetMeATicket to contact my wife and explain exactly why they were charging her for her 'prize'.
This is a copy of the email she received from them:
QUOTE:
Dear..........
We have been inform by pigsback that you would like to know "how competition winners receive their prizes"
All our prize winners are contact by email and then we arrange delivery of
the prize straight to their home address.
We hope this answers your question, however please let us know if this is
not the case.
Kind Regards
The Get Me A Ticket Team
UNQUOTE:
When she replied informing them this was not the case they just kept sending her the same email (as above) over and over again.
So, yes you can be fairy sure this is a scam. Unless someone else knows different of course!!!
It is probably best you talk to Pigsback and then make your own mind up.0 -
It's just a scam. As the saying goes 'there's no such thing as a free lunch'!0

Hi
I received a phone call from these a few months ago saying I had won a holiday for 4 to Tenerife all I had to pay was airport taxes of £29. However, the other condition was I had to argee to, and arrange there and then on the phone, to sit through one of they're 'no obligation promotional talks.' Basically they're just trying to sell you timeshare.0 -
Yes, had this "scam" tried on me too.:smileyheaMagenta0
