  • My ISP also (very usefully) uses spam assasin. Without fail it labels all spam as (spam) before the message title. It is then very easy for me using mailwasher to delete (and bounce if appropriate) spam. After about 6 weeks, it is amazing at the reduction of spam. It's free and it works. What more can I say?

I use SpamAssassin on our mail server and if configured correctly, it is very effective. The mail server gets hit with over 20,000 spam emails a month and less than 0.2% of these get through.
  • I use this. http://www.cloudmark.com/desktop/download/

Yes, the most recent free version only supports one account but MailWasher 1.33 in my post #4 further up supports multiple email accounts, is still available and is free.
I use ePrompter, which is a similar idea to Mailwasher in that you see <and can read> what is on the server and delete rubbish. You then download only what you want.

ePrompter "automatically and simultaneously checks and retrieves your email messages from up to sixteen password protected email accounts and then gives you notification whenever you have new messages." You can set how often you want it to check automatically <you can also check manually> and it then shows a different coloured circle for each account checked <cycles through them showing the different colours> and shows the number of emails in each. You can also reply direct from ePrompter if you want, without opening your email client. I check my Pipex, gmail and hotmail accounts simultaneously.
