I'm surprised no-one has mentioned spamcop yet. This is a free service: you send it your spam; it analyses the headers to identify the most probably source of the spam (most 'from' addresses are forged); and it then automatically generates a complaint to the administrator of the ISP in question. Probably the most effective way to fight spam, although it does not directly stop it from reaching you.

Bounced spam doesnt go back to the sender. They aren't that stupid. They forge addresses in the FROM field so it always goes back to someone else - often me!

That's a coincidence because I forward all my spam to you as well ;) :rotfl:

Hi, i keep getting emails about the stock market, i will click on message then block sender and then yes to block the sender...the problem is i will get more emails all along the same lines about the stock market but with a different email address...is there any way that i can stop this ? i am getting between 10 and 15 per day.

Blocking the sender will not work, it will only let them know that it is a real e-mail address, so they are likely to do it more. I would suggest getting yourself some anti-spam software and setting up a list of trusted addresses

That's not what I said at all. It allows the user to see what is on the server before downloading it. Why not have a look at the website given above?

    Chill out :D

I did look at the website and even downloaded it. The free version only supports one account but the problem with the type of spam we're getting comes from people with very legitimate names so the chances are you will download it anyway!

Yes, the most recent free version only supports one account but MailWasher 1.33 in my post #4 further up supports multiple email accounts, is still available and is free.

    Hello inmypocketnottheirs :)
Using MailWasher is soo much easier. I've used it for ages.
It works very well, zapps the nasties, and then takes you into your email program ;)

I've been getting loads of these too. I've started forwarding them all to enforcement@sec.gov (Division of Enforcement at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington DC) in the hope that, if they get enough complaints, they'll get fed up and do something about it.

    Wanna join me?

A very simple way to filter email in Outlook Express is to only allow mail to be received if the sender is in your address book.

I use this for the childrens computers, I can also check their accounts via webmail and then add any legit recipients to the address books.

    Simple, Free and it works.
