My mum thinks she has won a cottage break, I'm a little sceptical..

My mum was very excited to tell me she had won a cottage break holiday for two people to a one bedroom cottage of her choice, and I was very pleased for her, until she told me more.
She said it was one of the many prizes that you could win from doing an online survey, which didn't concern me, but she said that to claim your prize you had to ring a premium number or send off an envelope with a stamped address envelope to find out what you had won.
She phoned them and they have told her she can chose when and where, she will have to send them another stamped address envelope to be sent the brochure and she will have to give a £75 deposit when she books incase shedoesn't go.
I have told her that competition wins you should never have to pay up any money and you shouldn't have tosend an stamped addressed envelope either, it should be at the ost of the promotions company.
She wont listen and insists she is going to get a free holiday, I may be sceptical but I feel she is going to lose her money. Should I be concerned or has anyone else had this?

We won a cottage holiday and had a fab time and I think she quite likes the idea of a holiday, I have tried to tell her it seems a bit fishy but she insists she did do the survey, and it wasn't the top prize.
I have tried to tell her but she says it's a free holiday, where's the scam, when she said about the deposit that's when I thought they may take her money and not book it
I would be interested to hear if anyone has received a similar email or letter?
Surely if it is a scam then she wont have been the only person to have 'won' the cottage break.Comping wishlist for 2017

I agree its dodgy. Sounds like a scam win-4-now might pull. Sorry. XxJulie0

I have googled it and sounds like its part of the unclaimed prize register scam, have emailed her telling her not to go ahead with it and to do her research but I doubt she will listen, no one likes to believe they have been taken in by a scam and certainly not my mother!
Thank you, I knew something didn't feel right but she is so adamant about it. Hopefully she will listen or it will be a big 'should have listened to me' situation.Comping wishlist for 2017

Sadly this does sound like a scam.
I won a holiday from a comp on here a couple of years ago and we had to put a refundable deposit down, although no money actually changed hands as such, so with some comps you do need to do this. I knew it was totally legit, from one of the wedding magazines! If I had any doubt I would never have given them any deposit. Aw I really hope for your mums sake it isnt a scam but sadly I agree with everyone, a win is usually free and you shouldn't need to pay for it. Good luck to your mum, hope she gets a win soon xxBig thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0
