  • https://www.citywire.co.uk is a good place to DYOR.

You can check out the best funds and the best managers over time :).

Then buy it through a discount broker to minimise charges and maximise your investment.

Are you starting your portfolio from scratch or do you have other non-cash investments?

What are your investment goals? (Apart from making pots of money :rotfl: )

https://www.trustnet.co.uk is a good place to check out past performance and what funds are actually invested in.

You could go for index trackers, either funds or ETFs. Most managed funds will not outperform the index they are benchmarked to; there's not much point in paying a manager to closet track.

An ISA is just a 'tax wrapper' - not an investment itself

If you wanted a self select ISA where you choose what shares to invest in yourself, then Selftrade (who I use) are good, charge £25/year and will pay you £50 if you are recommended by an existing customer. They also allow ETF's to be purchased commission free within their ISA accounts.

If you are interested in buying investment/unit trusts etc - they can virtually all be 'ISA'ed - you just need to choose which fund(s) to invest in. If you were interested in these, have a look at buying via Hargreaves Lansdown, Best Invest or Cavendish Online

    Regards
    Sunil
