Been 'guaranteed' a Santander Credit Card. My account has been at £10 for 2 years!

I'm really quite shocked by this. I have a Santander current account at an address which is not my full home address anymore (situation regarding living with different parents)(I'm on the electoral roll at another address) and I've been offered a 'guaranteed' credit card from Santander.

I'm 18 and a half years old and the only account I've actually got registered with Santander has £9.98 in it, and it has done for the past 2-3 years!

Are they being incredibly iresponsible? Or am I missing something here?

On the website to apply for the Santander Card it states that you need to have an income of above £7,500. As far as they know from my account, I have zero income and no credit history whatsoever (main account with other bank at address where I'm on the electoral roll)

I'd been meaning to change the address over, but everytime I've gone into the branch at Canary Wharf there has been a queue of at least 30 minutes!

So what do you think? Some sort of error?
=)

    Unlikely that it is guaranteed.

What other accounts do you have, quite likely they are reporting to you credit file.

Mrs danouk got one of these yesterday - guaranteed subject to fraud and money laundering checks. They don't tell you the limit until you fill in the form.

I guess they use information from the way you operate your account and a data feed from one of the CRA's to make these decisions.

The really odd thing is that Santander have never tried to pitch any credit products at Mrs danouk before. Now, 2 weeks after she closes her account with them (long story, typical Santander service rubbish), they start pitching credit products at her. Bonkers!

I got one of these "guaranteed" credit cards from Santander when I still had my account with them. They still did a full credit check, as well as the fraud/money laundering checks. Their minimum credit limit is £500, so its likely you'd get that given your circumstances

I'm pretty sure the only thing Santander guarantee these days is to screw up any accounts you have with them and generally give you all sorts of headaches until you eventually get a letter from them confirming your request to close the account(s).
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

    Hi

I recieved one of these mailings, and was going to fill it in, but unsure now?

As everyone says that they do a credit check, so not sure now?

Does anyone one if a student is applicable to apply, as I know from santander's store cards, if you are a student and not in employment. then you will not be given one.

I don't know if the same criteria apply's here, then theres no point in applying. does any student out there applied for this card and recieved one?

Was looking at the Post office one, now, does anyone know if they accept applicants as studnets or not?

    thanks
  • I received two letters today guaranteeing me a santander credit card because I am a valued customer....I don't have an account with them!

I'm a full-time student and had no problems getting a credit card from the Post Office but as always it will depend on how much money you've got coming in and your credit history.

You got a letter confirming? How? It's taken 7 months so far to close Mrs Danouk's Santander current account and we've still not had a letter - only a phone call confirming it was closed...
