Is this a scam?

I've just received the following text message:

PLEASE CALL REGARDING YOUR MOBILE PHONE. CALL NOW ON 08702 252121.

Is this a scam? Will I be charged for calling the number, or is this a genuine message? It can't be from my service provider (Orange) because messages from Orange always have Orange as the sender whereas this message has 'call now' as the sender.

If anyone can enlighten me a little I'd be really grateful.

  • At a guess it's someone trying to offer you a 'brilliant' deal on a new phone, the 08700 no. isn't an expensive premium rate one. Just delete it.
  • Looks a similar number to the one that kept phoning me til they eventually got an answer and were trying to get me to take this great deal which would cost me an extra £20 per month ontop of what I was already paying.

Also beware, my Dad has been getting unsolicited phonecalls supposedly from the Halifax from an 0870 number to his mobile trying to get him to pass over his security details which he refused even though the Halifax apparently URGENTLY needed to speak with him.

Its a marketing call... they are not only going to offer you a bad deal (that will sound good as they will lie), they are also trying to make you pay for that sales call.

    Keep clear.

When they targeted me last time I picked up their call, listen to for a moment and then put them on hold for ever. They stopped after 3 calls....
