i've got a question. Is it only the items that are mentioned on the website that are on sale or are there more items instore? I've been looking at a chest of drawers but I'm not sure if the price has come down.Clint Eastwood Movie Icon book. First Win!:j0

What a disappointing day.
I finally took the plunge, took time off work, checked the stock levels on the website, measured my car again, took the child seat out of the car (so it would fit), filled the fuel tank and started on the 40 mile round trip to the Milton Keynes store.
Got there, and using the info from the website went straight to the aisle/location. They had 4 left. Loaded one onto the trolley, queued to pay. Came up as £159.99.
SO.....it seems that despite the website NOT saying it, it is ONLY the black Hemnes wardrobe on sale. All the other colours are not. An argument with the CS manager led to him pointing to the little picture on the site and saying "You can see this is a picture of the black one so it's obvious it's the only colour in the sale". Despite the fact that if you click on the link below it it allows you to choose a colour and NOWHERE does it tell you only the black one is on sale.
Of course, there were no black ones in stock. And they were not getting any more. The store manager refused to speak with me because she was both too busy and not in the store (depending on who you talk to). Although, strangely, they told me they had no access to outside lines but were able to talk to her on the phone.
Personally I am completely disgusted with Ikea - especially after the CS manager told me he had the power to sell me the brown wardrobe at the sale price but that he wouldn't because he felt the website was clear that it was only the black one on sale.
I intend to complain to the head office in Sweden as he told me they have no head office in the UK. Oh, and I also intend to warn every single thread about their shoddy customer service and misleading advertising on their website.
Utter waste of time and simply awful management.0 -
cheese cat, it may only be the wardrobes - so don't worry. The assistant said that they were getting rid of the black colour and the beige colour wardrobes as they were discontinuing them. Sorry for worrying you.0

Oh its no problem Osian, thanks for the insider info :j
I will keep an eye on the other items in the grey-brown (sounds like such a horrible colour but its lovely!) range in case they are being reduced - it seems the items are changing depending on store throughout the sale.
Whirly I'm sorry to hear you had that problem, the grey-brown wardrobe was on offer in Nottingham (2 hr 30ish round trip for me so id have felt as peed off if I had the same experience) for £99, but in Coventry it was £199 and I don't think it was reduced at all in Birmingham - consistency would be great especially as the website doesnt give much away. There are way more things on offer in store than on each stores site area.. bit of a gamble though!Proud meowmy of four fuzzy cats0 -
Huh, I would have taken it for £99.
My main complaint is that I worked very hard to ensure it wouldn't be a wasted journey. IMO their website is very misleading and advertises in such a way that people come in under false pretences. Funny thing is that I read a story on the BBC news website about the OFT catching a firm that offered cheap iPhones to people if they signed up, but failed to make clear that there were only 8 available. I'm tempted to report Ikea to the OFT and the ASA (yes, I'm still angry!)0 -
we have a 70 mile each way journey to ikea & bought hopen drawers, wardrobe drawers & wardrobes from there but they didn't have any doors for the wardrobe in stock at the time. every time we went in there they were oos even though it said they had stock on the website & when the last time we went looking for them (didn't check online first as it was a spur of the moment decision to go on the way back from visiting family) we got told they didn't sell them anymore:beer: Happy Bargain Hunting!! :beer:0

Well I had a happy day at the Bristol branch today- got everything on my list (non sale stuff), told my friend about the cheap Lack tables and she was wowed by my insider knowledge (thanks OP!;)), then bought a little retro- looking Jappling alarm clock. It was marked down to £2.49 in the sale but upon checking my receipt I see it was scanned at 79p. :T
A small triumph but a happy one :rotfl:They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Whirly - i really felt for you. I stopped shopping at Ikea ages ago because their service and stock system is so awful, you build your hopes up and waste loads of valuable time - and if you want to return something, get ready to lose the will to live! . I waayyy prefer Argos and there are so many other home stores around, Ikea really need to get their act together.
Only decent thing in Ikea is the veggie hot dogs!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0
