Changing Breakdown cover? Which one?

Hey all
I'm looking for a bit of advice. I got my breakdown renewal quote in from Green Flag and it's £104 to renew for the year.
Currently I have top level of cover but without Euro cover (don't need it)

I've got a Kia C'eed 1.6 Diesel 2008 plate. Only called them once but ended up cancelling the call out (Dead battery couldn't get in the car, kept trying it then got in the car and got a jump start before the mechanic arrived).

I do a lot of millage commuting work and general driving around (Away rugby tours etc) so would like a pretty comprehensive cover.

I decided to shop around. Found a few quotes at £30 but from reviews kicking about you have to pay for extra's when calling them out etc. Also read a few negative things about Green flag like only allowing 1hr 'free' to fix the car before getting charged etc.

I looked at RAC which for personal cover is an extra £10 on top of the Green flag renewal quote. Now I know this going in the wrong direction price wise but I don't mind paying for quality.

To cover my car only with RAC is £130 but going through cash back I could get £60 back which would make it around £70. Though that is depending on getting the cash back etc.

I looked at Tesco breakdown which is covered by RAC, Its £89 for there top cover. I also looked at Aviva breakdown cover and it's £79 for the year.

I looked at the policy's and I don't see much difference. I think it's stuff like you only get 1 day hire car with Tesco & Aviva where you get 3 direct RAC. I'm not sure if with Aviva you have to pay for labour & parts on the calls out? Couldn't see that clearly stated.

Has anyone used Tesco or Aviva for breakdown cover? or should I go direct and hope for the cash back? Though if the cash back doesn't come through it's not the end of the world still getting good cover for my money (I think).

Thanks

Muz

I know this doesnt help entirely with your question, but before i went to uni i was going to sell my car so i cancelled my AA cover.
i actually kept my car and while i was in the local shopping centre i was approached by an AA rep (i had not rejoined after keeping my car)
where i was previously paying 19 pound per month for relay-roadside- home start, they offered me the same package for just 10 pound per month.

so it might be worth seeing if there is a rep trying to get people to join up anywhere near you, they tend to offer the best deals? I often see RAC and green flag outside supermarkets if you are not keen on AA.

If you have Tesco Clubcard Points, it is hard to beat RAC paid for with Tesco Clubcard vouchers as it is effectively free.

I thought RAC covers the member, not the car.

OH has RAC cover through a Broker. We have full cover inc. European (which we need). It costs around £65 per year. I was going to get a policy for myself with the cashback offer, I've tried twice and it didn't track either time so I cancelled the policy (with 14 days) as I really didn't want to purchase without the cashback.
  • IC Breakdown are pretty good and so are autoaid. With autoaid you pay up front and claim it back. Only used them once and had payment within 3 working days.

Full UK Coverage + Home Start is approx £32.50 - I was with them for a year and never had any issues. If you introduce friends they even give you money off your renewal etc. They're
