Select new provider
Order broadband
They will send a router
Plug that in, set it up and away you go.
Should take you less than an hour to see your new router up

Get your MAC from AOL, (5 working days), give it to your new provider and sign up with them online (taking full advanatge of any cashback site deals on offer).
The downtime if you migrate using a MAC will be no more than an hour or two.
All you normally need to do is log into the new router interface, enter your new username and password, your wireless encryption settings (if not done by default) and job done.
The reason you probably had problems setting up AOL is that their bespoke software is a load of old cack, and quite unnecessary.
If you don't use a MAC you will have longer downtime and be hit with a £30 cease charge from AOL.No free lunch, and no free laptop

It is as far as AOL is concerned...No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'm not sure if anybody still uses their proprietary software - if they do use it exclusively there could be a bit of a learning curve moving over to a browser and normal mail client etc.
Of course the other issue is purging it from any PC it was installed on. I've seen views between a standard uninstall is enough and nuking from orbit being the only sure way.0
