Ebay despatch time

I won some concert tickets on ebay on monday evening and swiftly paid by paypal instantly. I paid £5.50 postage for express delivery (royal mail special delivery) and seller put will despatch within 3 days which i was happy with.

Just logged on and the seller has sent me a message to say that has received payment today and will post tickets out on monday! I am not really in any rush for them but i am annoyed and miffed that i have to wait a week after payment before item is even despatched especially as i have paid over the odds for quick delivery.

Do you think i should message the seller to let him know my dissapointment?

I think you should tell the seller that you are not impressed and suggest he/she post tomorrow instead of on Monday. Ultimately if you are really unhappy about this, you have the ability to leave a negative feedback within reason

It won't make any difference messaging them about your dissapointment and if they are spiteful may even make them delay further! If the tickets are what you expected when they arrive and they don't arrive too late (i.e. making you miss the concert) then just mark them down on the DSRs (the gold stars) - thats what they are there for.

May not be their fault - the payment may have gone through as an echeque - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/486205 for more details, which does take several days to 'clear'.

They still have friday or saturday morning to post the tickets out.
I would mark them down on dispatch time.

So would I, nothing higher than a 3* for exceeding their own despatch time frame.

I would be very surprised if it was an echeque payment.
The OP paid on Monday, and the seller stated that the payment was received yesterday, which is only 3 working days since payment. Echeques normally take a minimum of 7 working days, and often 8 or 9. (despite paypal stating that they should clear in 5 days).

I wouldn't be surprised to find that when the seller stated that they "received payment today", what they actually mean is that they received the paypal payment on Monday and transferred it into their bank account, and that the transfer was completed yesterday.

I messaged the seller to say i was dissapointed at having to wait so long for the tickets to be sent. After looking at my account i actually paid on sunday not monday and it wasn't an echeque i sent as money was taken straight from my paypal account.

The seller replied to say that money only cleared in his account on thursday and that he always waits for paypal payments to be transferred to his account. There was no mention of this on the listing and to be honest his reply was not apologetic at all. He will definetly be marked down on despatch time.

I can understand your frustration and have gone through a similar thing quite a few times before on eBay. They state they ship within x amount of days when infact they don't bother to ship until much later than that time. Also, if the seller waits for the money to transfer from his PayPal to his bank account, it would have been better if he put this in his listing info.

If I sell something on eBay, as long as the money is in my PayPal I ship in the stated time and I transfer the money to my bank account when I can be bothered.

I agree with lovinituk, rate them lower on their stars for despatch time. Have you checked their rating? maybe they already had a lower rating for despatch time.

That sounds a bit dodgy! Makes it near impossible to get the money back off them if you need to make a claim if their account is empty! Coincidentally the main news story on Radio 1 today is about ticket scams!!

It can actually make it easier to get money back.

If you win a paypal dispute, it doesn't matter a jot if there are no funds left in the sellers account. All that now happens is that paypal will refund you and then attempt to recover their money from the seller.
The old system, where if there were no funds available meant that you didn't get a refund was changed a few years ago.

The reason I say that it can sometimes make it easier to get funds back is due to the fact that if a seller doesn't send the goods within 7 days of receiving payment into their paypal account, then they lose their paypal seller protection.
