Did my bank break the law?

I think the OP needs to check the paperwork (when it gets sent from the bank) to see if there is any mention of where the funds where to be transfered to if that states her joint account, then she cannot complain.
If it says that the funds shold have gone to her sole account, then she needs to complain to the bank. Simples.
Presumably the agreement she signed should have stated this - but then it is unclear whether or not this was an online application or not...We've spent decades teaching people about their rights, but nothing about their responsibilities.0 -
My last post made this morning has vanished?!
That's strange, unless it's because of the post I'd quoted.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
What is the OP hoping to achieve?0

Probably because of the large number of posts that start something like "Bank has ripped me off" or "Bank broke the law, what can I do" which in most cases turn out to be the bank acting in accordance with legal Ts&Cs that the poster has agreed to or that turn out to be the fault of the poster because of something they did that wasn't mentioned in the first place.
It is perfectly reasonable to ask questions to check that this is not the case before advising the poster to take a particular course of action.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
I took out a Credit Card about 2yrs after separating from my Ex, a new bank and I lived in a completely different City. All applied in my sole name obviously.
Halifax still managed to send a card to me and also one to my Ex. I was none too pleased for obvious reasons, she could have racked up a whole heap of debt on it. I only found out due to a snide text message from her threatening to use it.
I got my apology but did it make a difference at all? Of course not.
To be fair though, as I had a financial association with her (Mortgage), I would've liked to know if she was burying herself in debt. Her credit file affects mine and vice versa so in a way I am not too outraged.
Let's face it, if you were crazy enough to become someones guarantor but found out after you were left encumbered with the debt, that they had been taking out dozens of payday loans behind your back, wouldn't you be annoyed??0 -
I find it strange that Banks can still restrict access to joint accounts to the male account holder. Surely this is worth a complaint in it's own right for breaching the SDA?. As for Santander depositing the loan into the J/A instead of the sole account, this is pure negligence. OP, complain to the bank at your hearts content, if you get £200 in compo out of them you will have deserved it.Never Knowingly Understood.

I agree, I'd be more annoyed to find out that our 'joint' money is apparently not joint after all, if I can't access it. Although I suspect there was some miscommunication or misunderstanding on this part, because I can't imagine any bank saying that only the man could transfer money out!
Unless - is it possible the husband had suspicions about the wife's financial state and asked that no money be taken out without both parties approving it?0 -
