Child cant get a bank account?? Help

Basically i have just tried to open one of my son`s a bank account and went for the cooperative kids account...but they have refused his application because they say his change of name deed poll isnt legal. This is because on the deed poll my sons first name has been spelt incorrectly missing 1 letter out, and because we are trying to open the account with the correct spelling they have refused.
I have used this same deed poll to get him a passport with no problems and his passport has the correct spelling of his name.

I have contacted the soilicitors that did the name change back in 2001 and they have said it doesnt matter that his first name is spelt worng as the deed oll was for change of surname not forname???

I have explained this to the bank who have said there is no way they can accept it and even went as far as telling me they have no idea how i got a passport using it??

I dont want to have to pay again to change the deed poll especially since the soilictors are saying there is no need to....any advise please??

Why not open the account using his passport as ID?

Coop are correct as you are using that as ID-cannot be incorrectly spelt. They will accept his Passport as ID.

That has a distinctly sinister ring to it. Time for a complaint.

They are only saying that as you would need proof to get passport, the name on passport needs to match the one on deed poll-spelt correctly or not.

They wont accept the passport as it expired last year, i have shown them the expired copy, plus his original birth certificate, his medical card with new name on spelt correctly again used the deed poll to make this change..i cant understand why iv been able to change his surname at the doctors on his nhs card and get a passport and have had no trouble until now.

Again solicitor say a deed poll was and states in the deed poll for change of surname from x to y....his birth certificate proves how his forname is spelt and deed poll shows new surname.

And if i open him an account using the incorrect speling shown on the deed poll i would still be wrong as its not his correct name...basically his correct spelling is Daine the deed poll shows Dane...missing the i.

But it doesnt his now expired passport shows his name spelt correctly not with the spelling mistake shown on deed poll, i used the same id to get his passport that i used to try and open him a bank account ie his original birth cert and deed poll....no problems.

Im just worried and want to sort this out now as i am now worried he is going to have lots of trouble in the future with driving licences ect.

Ok, the passport people must have made a mistake, people assume spellings of names and ignore it when it is spelt differently as in this case.

If he is under 16 then a birth certificate+National Insurance card (if he has got one) should do providing all details match and is showing correct spelling of name. Otherwise you need to change it on deed poll again to Daine. He will have trouble in the future if not everything is correct.
