Think my job offer is screwed now

Just had similar but with a Utilities company; I knew my credit wasn't great (possible understatement) so obviously avoided the financial sector but this was 'just' a call centre role where I thought I would just be dealing with service complaints and bill enquiries. I was honest with them and the interview was terminated before she could even ask if I was suitable for the job, which in all honesty I probably was not.
I'm of, the rather forgiving, opinion that if you've been through debt and/or debt problems then you can provide a lot more empathy and useful advice than someone who was lucky enough not to have debt problems. Going back five years and ignoring whether you've paid the debt off seems incredibly harsh. How are people meant to pay off debts if employers penalise them for having the debts in the first place?0 -
You are wrong when you say theres no chance. If you declare anything wrong with your credit you are ok. Its called an integrity check. What happened to me was i declared the defualts i remembered but forgot one thing. So when lloyds rang me saying i failed they told me my check came back with 2 declared ( hence fine) and one udeclared (why i failed)..hence i had forgot to declare something and was punished for it. I checked my credit report using experian and found the problem..they have told me to apply in the future and declare everytihng in detail and i will pass the check. Unfortunately waiting is annoying!!
So you can work in this field with bad credit as long as you declare it all...so be honest and state everything!!
Also must point out lloyds are ok with it as long as you state it..Case may be different for other banks. i dont know.0 -
Same thing happened to me and I had already worked for the company for a week and a half by then! I had told them when I started that my credit was poor and was told that since I had let them know it should be fine and they were mainly just looking for bankruptcy and things like that anyway - then they got their hr department to call me at home at night and tell me I'd failed the check and not to bother coming back in. Really upsetting that they can do that over something in the past - their argument was that since I was in debt I would be more likely to defraud the company. Er, if I was a criminal I doubt I'd be in so much bleedin debt!!0

I had an interview with Lloyds on Monday and I asked about credit checks as I declared to them on the job application that I was on a debt management plan. The two interviewers said that it wouldn't be a problem and it's all checked out before the interview, if my credit problems were an issue I wouldn't have even got as far as the interview.
This was for an entry level job though, but still cash handling.0 -

That sucks I must say. Give them a fresh copy of your CV with every declaration under the sun then keep going in and asking if they have any vacancies until they crack haha :rotfl:Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -
did you get the job with Lloyds, I am in a simular situation, I was discharged from bankruptcy last july and have had a clean credit file since then, has anyone managed to work for a bank after being discharged, I have been offered a conditional offer which was last week, I was not asked at the interview about previous credit history as I had to pass an intial credit check to get pass the telephone interview process, do you think I have a chance?0

My advice is keep your fingers crossed but don't get your hopes up too much.0 -
how long did it take for Lloyds to come back to you from the job offer till the withdrawal, im due to to start end of June, I don,t want to be hanging till then!!!0

it was a week after the phone call offering me the job the phoned back to say there was a problem with the "checks" and they were withdrawing the offer. They couldn't tell me what the problem was though.
I don't think they would keep you waiting till June if there was a problem. I was supposed to start the training this monday just gone (9th May) they withdrew the offer on 5th April0 -
I used to work for Lloyds TSB Private Banking. At the time I had a CCJ on my file which had been there for 5 years - I wasn't in debt or anything, I just had this old CCJ. Anyway, I passed the credit check, was offered the job and duly started work, great!!
Now, a couple of years earlier I had been victim to bullying at work and had been off sick with stress, eventually leaving with a pay off from the company in question as a thank you for me not taking them to court. The union shop steward who got this for me told me to just tell future employers that I had been made redundant and the company would back that up on references etc, no problem. I told Lloyds TSB this and of course, they checked, but the company I previously worked for did not stick to their side of the bargain and I had to go through the whole business with them and explain why I lied about why I left a previous job. They then told me that my position was at risk because I lied, and they were going to make a decision in the next couple of days. I pre-empted their decision as I'd also had a job offer from British Gas and resigned. They would have sacked me anyway. Lloyds TSB are massive on people declaring things and if you don't declare something that they find out about, you're either out or not in in the first place. There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0
