Think my job offer is screwed now

i recently had a lloyds interview and was offered the job yesterday. They now are doing a 5yr history check on me and a credit check. I have had defaults and such in my past but was told by the interviewers the credit check was a 'integrity' check so if i listed my bad credit items it would be fine. So although told that im still worried and also with the 5yr check as im not sure all my past employers will be kind on their references or even remember me.

Really wanted this job so to be offered the position was amazing but now it seems like im waiting on the call which may tell me its over. in turmoil at the moment!!lol

the History check is an integrity check

the credit search is to see if you are "fit" to work in a financial institution, if you have more than 3 ( I am sure thats what my friend was told) then you wont get offered the position, they are very strict on this, sorry

Well instead of fretting about it why not wait for the response
  • No the man in the interview was definately talking bout the credit side of it. I brought it up and said im not sure if im eligible for this role due to my credit and he said just write down any defualts u have had in the past and it will be fine.

The credit issues i had have since been paid off years ago though probably still show up on my credit file
  • so i got the call today and low and behold my offer was terminated and i failed. gutted and angry right now. Think the system is wrong and ppl should be ble to explain themselves. I was young when i did what i did and have rectified it. But ah well this is an age now where young ppl dont stand a chance.

Ive had enough now and today i put in an application to join the army.

Really sorry and a bit angry to hear this. The key thing is you paid them all off! I would have thought that knowing about getting in and out of debt was a plus.
  • Sorry to hear that :(

  • Its heartbreaking especially since they told me on the first call how i had scored extremely highly in the interview and assessments and now something in the past has ruined my future.

I really feel something has to change in their policies. Perhaps a second interview to discuss it or something i dunno. Ah well i will just have to keep going and see where life takes me.

You said there were several things they had to check - not just credit but references as well.
Did you find out which thing let you down? It could have been one of the references being off.
Or it could have been something else entirely. Did you ask?

I am interested that they specified 'defaults' - I thought a default was where one didn't pay the money back.
  • He specified it was the credit check. Kinda expected it. Im never as lucky to land a job like that. Knew something would happen lol. Have applied for a credit report to see what exactly came up.
  • Defaults are when you have missed a payment. E.g you missed a credit card payment one month or you missed your mortgage payment.
