Any missed or even late payments bar you from working in such a position

It is a shame but I think having a clean credit record is reasonably important for this sort of role.

Sorry I don't agree with you viktory.

I work for a bank and I work beside someone that has a criminal conviction (all be for small offence and years old) and someone who has a clean credit rating but owes 10's of thousands of £.

The bank don't care potential employee A owes more £30K as their credit rating is fine but potental employee B who owes £0 and several years ago for whatever reason got into difficulties the bank won't touch with a barge pole. Something very wrong with this.

Why is a clean credit score good for that role in a bank, to me it says people with a bad credit score are more likely to steal or be of ill morals.

scooby88 do you read much on MSE? because there are lots of people on here that for many various reasons have a bad credit score.

Are you saying they all have ill morals?

    Well think POSITIVE!!
If you don't get it, it's not the end of the world, but hopefully you do get it.

You're an accountant?? Or in that kind of work? (your username) Is it true if you've been bankrupt then it's hard to get a job in that sector? And that you can get fired if you become bankrupt?? If so, WHY is this?

GOOD LUCK! Be positive ok xxx

    I'm confused.

I applied for a graduate position at RBS and HSBC and this was one one of the first questions I was asked [have you been declared bankrupt or have an adverse credit history?]

I didn't get past that stage.
  • I went to an open recruitment day for a bank and we were told then that if we weren't going to pass the credit check we had no chance. Im surprised they told you it would be fine.

The advisor in the job centre the other day was asking if I would be interested in applying to work with the bank and when I told her it ws unlikely I would pass the credit check, she said 'yeah if you don't think you will pass the credit check, you're wasting your time', so it seems to be pretty common knowledge. The guy was totally wrong to mislead you on that imo.

If you have defaults you are in no position to offer any advice from a financial point of view. That's how they see it.

Everyone knows that to work in finance you have to be credit checked, and if you have an adverse credit history you don't stand a chance. Best to let the adverse history drop off your file and try again.
