How can I cancel our FD current account?

I sent them a message as soon as I heard about the new charges (our account is now empty as I transferred the £40 to my HSBC one) but they have not replied.

I have sent another message this morning.

Does anyone know the easiest way to cancel, will I have to phone or write a letter or can they just activate it from an instruction in a secure message?

(I am not in the UK so can't just pop into my local HSBC branch!)

Thanks :)

I just pop in now and then.... :)

  • The secure message system will work - they are inundated just now with requests for closure so be patient I think is the best advice.

I hope people do close their accounts since even the grande fromage said they were concentrating on their "better customers". This is a terrible insult to customers who have small balances and so what if they dont use it as their main account, who says you need to!? I hope they live to regret this, and only wish I had a FD account so I could close it with as much respect as they are showing for their customer. A customer is still a customer and pays their fat (!!!!) cat salaries.

I only have a savings account with them and have never taken any money out of it (due to the no-interest rule they have). I'm now in the process of opening an ICEsave but can't see how to transfer the bulk of my savings out of The FD account into another - there doesn't seem to be any obvious route on the website.

If you can logon to the internet banking option on the main web page, then you can use the pay bill & create new payment options to send money to another account outside of FD. If you don't have online access, then you can always do it via the telehone banking option I guess (I'm assuming this as I've never had just a savings account with them.)

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,

If it is a standalone e-savings account you have you will have to call FD who will set up the beneficiary details for you(as it wont allow you to do this online) and then you can go online and set up your payment.

    Hope this helps

This response is a little OTT. You can avoid the charges by opening a savings account and putting just one pound in it. Much less trouble than shifting all your banking around.

The trouble will be worth it if it makes other banks stop and reconsider adopting this type of policy. They will do it for all accounts if they get away with it now.

Join the fight and close any FD accounts, I would rather that I had the trouble than in a couple of years find myself saying if only people had fought to stop this happening I could have spent the £120 on.....................

I got a letter ages ago telling me they were going to close my account as it wasn't used. Great I thought, save me the bother. Still waiting around 4 months later.

I really can't be bothered, the only reason the FD account is open is so that DH has somewhere people can pay money in if need be, but from now on they can just pay it into my HSBC and it will be easier.
