I'm totally with you OP, DD goes to a school dominated by children of middle class SAHMs and frankly, 5 days' notice to provide her with a pirate costume, or an "anglo-saxon" costume is inadequate, and especially so when both parents work full time.

I'm lucky in that I can afford to order off the internet and pay for fast delivery, but why should I? and lots of people can't afford that. eta and I have zero crafting skills.

Problem with having no teachers with children in the whole school...zero empathy.

Or we could all complain to the schools to stop doing 'specific'costume days, and just have a non uniform day and take 50p for charity/school/book day etc. I've got two kids, and can do without the expense of a different outfit every five minutes!!
