Yes, bugs can live in bags of compost. You would be amazed it what they can endure."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

It is annoying especially when you read that you should only use fresh compost for sowing seeds to avoid disease, etc, then you end up with a bag full of bugs!
Anyway at least I know now if it happens again to scrap it all, maybe even return the compost (can I do that?) and start afresh.0 -
Maybe its the time of year? Spotted a few little flies around the old hanging baskets. Covering the surface seems like a plan.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

The HortuculturalTVchannel that aired 2 sundays ago recommended using a small pot of almond essence or oil amidst your plants - the sweetness makes them kamikaze into the liquid and die.
I'm sure if you google it or look on Youtube you can see the prog again.
PS. Note to self - must buy some.0 -

My OH's hyacinth's that she got from the garden centre a week or so ago, has today suddenly started throwing out tiny black flies. Uh Oh I thought, as I put it in the back garden.
Nothing else I have seems to be infected yet.
Makes you wonder about garden centres though, they must be a breeding ground for them. And to get rid of them what do they use?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
