Train fine issued despite valid ticket

And with you admitting that the barriers were open - did you mention this on yoru appeal - makes no odds as the ticekt was not validated before the start of your journey
Yes, I fully understand that. And also that with the black-and-white views of the inspector yes it clearly hadn't commenced correctly, but I'm sure you can see why it required an appeal still.
The relevance of the inclusion of the barrier information was to point out my consideration for making sure everything was done correctly. With the train literally about to depart I was probably looking at the train doors as my fiancee had made it on already. Sadly that moments glance is probably what did it, despite my care otherwise.
I maintain it is entirely ridiculous and an unnecessary charge. Another win for the petty money makers.0 -

Im sorry but your wrong and whilst i may be biased given i work in the rail industry you have travelled with an oyster/ticket that is not valid for your journey. There will always be another train and its always the responsibility of the oyster holder to ensure that they tap in and out correctly.
It quite clearly states this in all relevant sections of bylaws NCoC TFL Coc and such like.
Its hard to take i know but better get over it then fret.one of the famous 50 -
Depends entirely on your viewpoint. Thanks for your help anyway.
All the best.0 -
Not really - it depends on the facts.
did you have a valid ticket for your journey? No.
there you go. It would amaze you how may times a day we hear 'the machine beeped' when we catch people - im not saying you done this on purpose but on the railway its a LOT.one of the famous 50 -
I genuinely do appreciate your responses but as someone who works for the rail industry, using lines like 'when we catch people' I realise consumer advice to challenge the fine may be better found elsewhere!
to wealdroam - thanks for the links, I'll take a look.0 -

You have already challenged the fine and it was not upheld. You have a thread title of saying you had a valid ticket but it turns out you hadnt as you had not touched in with your oyster = no valid ticket.
If you want to take it further then london travel watch
http://www.londontravelwatch.org.uk/complaints/appeals
they may be able to take it further for you but im not too sure if they will be successful either.
And yes - when we catch people. You would like to think everyone who uses teh railway is honest but because the opportunity is there for people to get away without paying then a lot of people do. So when they get stopped they get caught. Make sense? does to meone of the famous 50 -
Not fair to give advice like this without declaring your interest if you really are a lurking hector, geordieracer!0

My interest has been declared many times before on this website and in particular on this forum. But it is the right advice as he has already admitted that his journey print out shows no start of journey which means the ticket is not valid. Has already appealed the Pf which has been rejected..one of the famous 50 -

Poor (and arrogant) excuse. You aren't some sort of celeb hector we all should know are you?
How was the OP (or anyone else) supposed to realise your interest?
It was 6 posts into this thread before you made a slip and revealed you are really a hector with an obvious interest for the "other side"!0 -

why am i a hector? In fact even before i had admitted any sort of interest my first post was full of factual and hopefully helpful advice - I.e get a print out of the journey. This they then admitted that they had done and it showed no start of journey.
Dont try and slag people when i was trying to help - whether i register my interest as someone who works for the railway or not i dont need to have your narrow minded views on people who do thrown at me thankyou very much.
Next item i wont bother and leave it to people like you to give them the wrong advice should i?one of the famous 50
