PC Help Please

Hiya

I would appreciate any help please,

Yesterday I reinstalled windows Xp on my pc, I downloaded the cd and once restarted I loaded the Bt hub software on it and got connected to the Internet, The pc was a bit funny with blurry colors and looked a bit of an older version or something.

I tried to do a system restore but couldn't as I had loaded on top of the previous settings and have lost everything.

I then found another cd and reinstalled windows again hoping that it would be fine but after installing I couldn't load the Bt hub software on the pc, I tried for a few hours and gave up.

I tried again this morning reloading the windows fresh again from the cd thinking I'll start from the beginning and load everything again,
The windows cd has loaded but the Bt broadband hub cd wont, I phoned bt and the assistant guided me through some bits in the end he said there's nothing wrong with the connection or the hub its the pc.

I know I've messed something up is there any way I could go back to the previous settings (2 days back) I probably cant as I've lost everything and have reinstalled windows,
How do I fix the windows, ive loaded twice today and cant get the Internet on it?

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

Assuming you are connecting with ethernet, a bt hub doesn't require installing.

You probably need to download ethernet and video drivers from the pc manufacturers website, have a look in device manager for yellow question marks.

Normally I use to pull the ethernet cable out the laptop and put it in the PC and log on.
I had all the software on it too the hub, internet and everything.

I think I've lost something or need to load something , I reinstalled XP home this morning.

As I said, a hub needs no drivers or software, once you get the ethernet driver installed, it should just work, and then you can download any other missing drivers - what's missing will become apparent if you look in control panel, system, device manager

if you search the forum for ethernet drivers, missing drivers, video drivers etc, there are probably 100's of threads from people who have just done the same thing

I've got yellow question marks next to
    Ethernet controller
    Multi media Audio controller
    PCI simple communications controller
    USB device
    Video controller (Vga compatible)

I tried to click on update driver but it either wants to connect to Internet to do it which I cant connect to, Or want a Cd which im not sure is which one ?

go to the manufacturers website, download the ethernet driver on the laptop, transfer using a usb key or cd, install it, then you can try the updates to get the rest

unless you have the ethernet driver installed, nothing is going to work on the net, that's how the pc talks to the router.

you said you somehow got on the net previously, so maybe you have the ethernet drivers on a disc?
