Sainsburys Energy / EDF / Nectar

At the back end of last year / beginning of this, EDF energy removed itself from the Nectar rewards scheme (recently absorbed by British Gas - you know, tv ads every 30 seconds) and I have a contract, signed with Sainsburys Energy, via EDF (done in the Sainsburys store) to provide my gas and electric until I say stop! The contract also states that I will receive Nectar points for every bill paid to them - this has inadvertantly stopped due to EDF (the former energy supplier to Sainsburys) no longer dealing with them, and thus Nectar. I have tried speaking to Sainsburys Energy (you've guessed it, now British Gas) who only want to speak to me if I am willing to switch to BG. I always thought that as Sainsburys Energy were the people who I signed up with, they are responsible for giving me my Nectar points - they say not, EDF say they can't and British Gas being the only ones who can, are not my provider. Help please someone?

Your contract may well have changed after takeover .AND or the original contract has a get out clause if EDF stopped using a reward scheme .

Do a full comparison using an accredited comparison website. You will find a new online deal worth savings far in excess of the Nectar thingys.

As it happens, one of the best online offers is with BG, so you may get a few drops of honey if you are besotted by these marketing ploys.

Don't sign up for the Standard tariffs, with even more Nectars, because it will cost you over £100 extra.

Is it really worth it if you're just bothered about the Nectar points? I only got, on average, 87p's worth of points per quarter.

With Sainsburys Energy customer service line now being run by BG there was never going to be much they could tell you about any change in EDF's contracts really...

It really can can be though, if OP someone decided to move to BG now on the basis of following nectar, and setup something as common/simple as duel fuel on direct debit with energysmart they'd be landing anything up to 18,360 points in the first 12 months which is just over £90, not bad for nothing.

Do you have a breakdown of how that is made up, please?

    Sure -

15,000 points signup incentive for signing up as a duel fuel customer on EnergySmart (monthly paperless billing) - call customer service in regards to this as i haven't seen it advertised in mainstream media.
1600 points for setting the gas and electricity on direct debit (800 p/f)
960 points for meter readings (40 points per monthly meter reading p/f)
800 points for the supply being with BG over the year (50 points per fuel a quarter, also 100 bonus a quarter for having duel fuel)

And that's not even taking into account if they have a service agreement or not...

If they're only able to get the 10,000 point signup incentive though, all the other points still apply and they can switch to the monthly billing for 250 points per fuel so 500 on dual which comes to just shy of £70 worth of points (13,860) over the 12 months, as far as the tariff goes yes it comes over on Standard either way but theres nothing stopping the customer moving to an online tariff once switched...

    Yellowcard,

Just tried to get through to Bg but they say they are clogged up with Nectar enquiries.

I thought from previous research that you only got 10,000 points if you signed up to Standard tariff.

I worked out for an average customer it would cost them £179.02 to sign up for this to earn £50 worth of nectar points.

Can you clarify which tariff the 15,000 points is for ?

I also thought the 10,000 points were paid over the 12 month period,so I don't understand your point about transferring to an online tariff.

I am just trying to be accurate as customers obviously get excited by Nectars, for some unknown reason to me.

We wouldn't want to mislead anyone. :)
