Original vs New Wood Floorboards?

Dont know if this is the right place to ask but...
House is victorian/edwardian and therefore should have nice old floorboards under the sitting room carpet. Said carpet is a menace to keep clean, specially in winter when we have open coal fires and we think wood floors are more attractive in any case.
So ideally we would have original floorboards BUT! I am very worried about how cold this might be, considering these old suspended floors are nicely aerated by an airbrick which will deliver freezing cold air between the boards and right up my jacksie in the middle of winter.
So maybe the answer is to insulate the floor, but how expensive is this in relation to laying down solid oak flooring on top?
Answers appreciated!

I don't know the answer to your question, but don't assume the boards are in good condition - mine are a shocking state, so it may not be possible to make them look decent anyway. It will be expensive to take up the floor and relay, your best option might be engineered wood (it's a step up from laminate). It will certainly be warmer, and you can put some nice rugs down.0
