Daewoo help needed please
we have a 2005 Daewoo Tacuma with a Chevrolet badge on it & we need to find out the old Daewoo policy for changing cambelt/tensioner/pulleys.
we realise that GM bought out Daewoo at some point in the last few years, that's why it's got a Chevvy badge on it, but is there some way that information about daewoo policy has survived? And if so, how do we find it?
this relates to my earlier post https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2961584=
TIA

From the very first post when i plugged 'Daewoo Tacuma Timing Belt' into google
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/used_car_reviews/article386665.ece
Timing belt and tensioner pulley must be replaced every four years or 40,000 miles

And it's very important if you have the 2.0 Holden engine -- these engines are notorious for premature tensioner failure and if it were my car I'd be reducing the interval down to 3 years/30k miles.0

thank you paul
and our car is a 1.6L engine. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all

I've just read through the original post.
Disgusting behaviour by the dealer IMO.
This engine is an old design, and Daewoo have well documented cases of tensioner failure on both the 1.6 and 2.0 engines (although far more on the 2.0). I've had a 1.6 Daewoo and have read up on that engine at length. It's essentially the same engine Vauxhall were putting in Astras and Vectras in the mid-1990s, and these were also known for duff GF50 tensioners.
To not replace the tensioner on that of all engines is disgraceful.0 -
well done on reading the other post jase, its quite lengthy! i am trying to gather as much info as i can before writing to Motor Codes Ltd, who deal with complaints if the dealer doesnt resolve it. if that fails, then its off to court, which i am dreading

Look up Daewoo tensioner failures -- there are a lot of them around. Might help your case to establish that this engine is prone to failure if not properly serviced.0

thanks, I am. i have found a kit for sale on amazon that clearly includes the tensioners/pulleys so i'll print that off.
I had been feeling deflated about it all, but now I'm feeling more positive, thanks

A good place to start would be "Honest John" at the Telegraph, and Jason Dawe of the Times. Both are experts in their field, both are quite happy to answer technical queries like this, and both are aware of the GF50 tensioner issue.0 -
I have emailed Honest John (hope he replies) but i cant seem to find any contact details for Jason Dawe at the Times. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all
