I used an old door to kneel on in the loft when laying my insulation.

You don't need anything up there once its laid unless you regularly go in the loft for some reason ( perhaps if you use it for storage). Obviously some kind of platform near the hatch is useful when entering the loft ( though i manage without )
Its for you to judge if the wood you have is strong enough to support your weight across joist spans.
  • went to B&Q in Tunbridge wells the other day and they arent doing the BOGOF.
Although Crawley banch are, but had sold out!
  • Went to Homebase in Bracknell today, bought 10 rolls of 150mm ECO Loft Insulation, (recycled from old plastic bottles), for £24.40, it appears to be BOGOF AND in their half price sale.
  • With all the snow we've just had, the water from the snow that did melt on the roof seeped through and onto the ceiling boards making a mess of the plaster board and the loft insulation. I only needed a roll or two to replace the sodden stuff and it was dead handy to know where to go before I set foot out of the door!

  • Well this is an old thread, but B&Q seem have to have BOGOF on rolls of loft insulation again. The only exception seems to be the Star Buy '3 rolls for £3' stuff, which has mostly sold out - see this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1487563
