Undercharged for new car
We drove off in our new car yesterday from the showroom. Going through the paperwork thi sevening, we realised the amount on the card receipt is missing a zero. In other words, we bought the car for £1000 instead of £10,000. Surely there is no getting away with it so we were expecting a phonecall from the dealership today but it never came. I'm sure they will call us tomorrow if not very soon. What I want to know if they can carry out another transaction for the reminder amount without notifying us.
There was a similar thread about being undercharged for a car or the OP was complaining about the dealership rectifiying their mistake by making an unauthorised transaction. Although the thread was confusing difficult to follow ( I cannot post a link but have searched under sales overcharged and the thread came op.) and the OP being vague.

You've transferred the money out, which you're already contracted to spend, in case they do decide to take it?
Like bank charges, do you?0 -
Why don't you just contact the dealer, you're only delaying the inevitable.

Agreed.
Are you seriously contemplating stealing the remaining £9000 from the dealer?
At the very least, return the money to the CC and keep your mouth shut.....0 -
why on earth would you transfer the money out?
and tbh you have noticed the mistake so even if they did rectify it without telling you why would you have an issue with it? surely it would be better cleared up sooner rather than later
personally i would of called them as soon as and got it sorted\
such a shame we are turning into a country who love to claim they have been done wrong by what is clearly a genuine error0 -
If the car was £1000 and they accidentally charge you £10, 000 then noticed straight away and didn't let you know you'd be annoyed. Don't be a douche bag. Can't believe you've even gone to the bother of transferring the money for a day's interest and taken the time to post on this forum.0

How could it be unauthorised? You authorised them to take £10K! I suspect that they will need you to revisit to enter your PIN for a second transaction on a debit card but the contract you have with them will show the correct amount you're liable for. There was a similar thread about being undercharged for a car or the OP was complaining about the dealership rectifiying their mistake by making an unauthorised transaction. Personally, I'd get it sorted, your £9K is only earning you about a quid a day, less tax.0 -
Masterlumps would personally call them first. Personally, I am waiting for them to call as there are other outstanding items that the dealership owe us too. But I would be happy to pay what I should when they call.
jase1 - Seriously, I am not contemplating stealing £9000 because that would be illegal. I would not knowingly do something illegal.
I just wanted to ask if they can make another transaction without telling us.0 -

I am not debating about the amount I am liable for. I am clearly invoiced for £10,000 and entered the pin believing I have paid the £10,000.
Thank you, at least you seemed to be the only one who have tried to answer my question. I would rather they ask me to go back to pay with the card.0 -
Just to add something into the mix...
If you go into a shop, buy something and they give you the wrong change you're entitled to keep it.
If you go into a shop, buy something and they charge you the wrong amount, they cannot come after the money.
Not sure how it'd work with a £10k invoice though....0 -
Yes, that's right Hammyman, but the OP won't be able to plead ignorance on this one (if that is what they wanted to do which they have said isn't the case) due to the fact that they've removed the money from the account.
My thoughts on this would be to return to the dealer at the earliest opportunity, mention it straight away and keep my fingers crossed that I might get a free service for my honesty
