another thing to note, dont assume that you didnt shut the cage. I know of several who are able to push the door of the cage open. Mine can't do it now but the old cage could be opened in seconds with a little determination. Once they know how to do it they will keep on doing it too - I had to use mini padlocks on my cage to keep the doors shut in the end.

Oh one of my hamsters used to move her house into the middle of the cage, stand on it and push up for the door to ping open, I even put a massive heavy ashtray on the top and she still managed to get out, and how I didnt wake up with the ashtray smashing on the floor I have no idea. My mum found her at 3am that morning happily chewing up a sanitary towel :rotfl:

My kids hamster went missing once, i ended up finding it in the sub woofer speaker, part of the surround sound tv speakers.
I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.

I do sympathise, and hope you find it.

Our chinchilla once escaped and got behind the skirting boards. I came home to find hubby trying to poke it out of its hole with a toilet roll holder - lol! I called its name about three times and it came running out to me.

So if your Hamster knows its name well, try calling it? Best of luck! :)

mine chewed its way out of it's cage, (plastic bottom) chew hole in carpet and side of skirting, peg it out into the hallway, up a flight of stares and sit on my bedroom floor and stare at me,

scared the living carp out of me, as i hear this noise in my room and i swear i thought it was a ghost.

this was several years ago, but will never forget it

  • One Christmas mine escaped and was discovered behind the cooker (not built in one) with a cute little nest he'd made out of bits of tinsel he'd knicked off the tree. I'm sure it was lovely and snug back there. They get into all sorts of odd nooks and crannies, but they do normally turn up again, you discover them pootling around looking for dinner. They can squeeze through tiny gaps so the chances of it getting stuck somewhere and dying are quite small. They are unlikely to get upstairs if kept downstairs, but they might have got downstairs if normally kept upstairs.

You can leave cage on floor with food inside, sometimes they go eat and then go back to bed.

Sit out in the evening, quietly, with something they like to eat with a good strong smell to tempt them out, and listen carefully for any little noises anywhere.

You might find it a bit harder to catch if you've only had it for a couple of weeks as it won't be all that tame yet. If you really have no luck you could buy one of those humane 'live' mousetraps.
