dont worry too much, set a bucket trap to try and entice him back. Mine went missing for two weeks once. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

wow,and it turned up ok?that gives me a bit of hope.i feel truly awful about it(esp cos i think it must be me who didn't shut the cage properly)do you know if there is a "favourite " food to entice him?i used pieces of apple and a bowl of his hamster food, but not even a nibble was missing.
thankyou.0 -
Hi, try a small amount of strong cheese and/or some cucumber. If you have a plastic storage box that's deep enough for him not to be able to get out of, leave that near to where you keep his cage(obviously on the floor
) stick a sturdy piece of wood as a ramp up to box, with a trial of stinky cheese leading up to the top and put some in box, stick some cucumber in the box for the water content and put some of his (used if possible) bedding in there. If no joy move box to edge of a quiet room. good luck

The above advice is sound.
We once lost a chinchilla that we were looking after for someone - we let it out of its cage and it wandered into the kitchen and disappeared under the floorboards through a hole under the sink.
Panic set in, as it was a much loved pet of a neighbour, so we phoned RSPCA and asked what to do - they said to just leave some food near the hole in the floor and when it's hungry it will come back.
It did! (thank goodness). Just needed a dust-over to get rid of the cobwebs - didn't tell the neightbour, though!0 -
Without a paddle gave good advice, make sure you find a jar or plastic box they can get into but not out.
In the evening, turn all sound making things off and go into each room and listen carefully. I let my hamster out for a run in the bathroom and she managed to get in the hole behind the toilet but couldnt get out, so had to remove the whole back of the toilet. You could hear her scratching around.0 -
Can say it has happened to me too, and I just put his cage on the floor with some cheese and he popped himself back in and took the cheese to bed

This has happened to me also. My hamster disapeared in the wall cavity and we could hear him running around. I was distraught and got OH to pull the oven away from the wall (it was the only moveable thing in the kitchen/living room) I left a torch shining up and food outside for days and it didnt appear. My OH made me put torch away and give up but I wouldnt let him shove the oven right back and then about a week later I woke up to find harry wandering around livingroom floor covered in dust , lolThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

I have had many escape over the years,
i used to always cook some garlic bread slices or toast at night they would always seem to love the smell of the garlic butter and re appear from there hidy-hole
I am sure your little furry will appear0 -
mine once managed to get inside the settee, my brother cut into the settee under the cushions with a big knife and got the hamster out, so check you can't hear him/her in anything that they could of knawed into.
Bucket idea also works well too.
Turn anything that makes a noise off at night as that's when he/she will be most active and just listen to see if you can hear it scurrying in any of the rooms.
BTW good luck, Houdini had nothing on a hamster0 -
