Are people like me middle class?

I don't give a stuff what class I am, I was just pointing out than if you think what you have and do makes you middle class, then lots of working class people have and do the same.
You made the statement that you're middle class, so you must care really.
And it was a serious question I asked ~ that do you really think you are middle class because you have been to uni, have an office job, have a mortgage and have a PC and laptop?
Honestly? I was providing my opinion to add to everyone elses. Why? because it's a fairly quiet day at work. I didn't have to say anything at all. Sure I over-generalised, but that's because like so much in this world things are never black and white, even though people still argue as such. So it's difficult or damn-near impossible to actually define these sorts of things (and I admit I did a poor job). If I say 'I work therefore I'm working class' then so be it. Makes things a helluva lot simpler eh?0 -
Who really cares?

It's only rich people who don't need to work, not middle class people, and even so most sensible rich people do work anyway. There's not many idle rich these days, most people with anything other than moron mentality want to do something with their lives these days, even if they're rich or very rich.
Yes, you're middle class, a lot of people are these days. And, as is the point of your thread, there are various definitions available. And you fit most of them for middle class.
Whether you're upper, middle or lower middle class is another interesting set of values to consider. Right now it's a bit too late to do much thinking or read all the rest of your interesting thread but I might come back to this tomorrow and add a bit more if I've got anything to say that might be worth adding.
One more thing, I noticed a bit of negativity and sniping at the start of the thread but I haven't read the rest of thread, yet. Yes, I saw some people sneering at you and accusing you of showing off. However, I can offer these notions about it, for what it's worth (probably not a lot, but anyway). I don't think you were showing off, I think you were just laying out a bit of relevant info about yourself in order to clarify a bit about what you're on about. One would hazard a guess that it may be likely to be only people less well off than you who would consider what you said to be showing off.
I doubt whether many if any people who are better off than you would consider you to have been showing off to define your level of wealth in the way that you did. You weren't, for instance, mentioning a million pound house, mortgage free, and a couple of hundred grand of shares and such like. Now that could be considered to be a tad ostentatious to mention on a money saving website while asking if you could be considered to be middle class, couldn't it. But that's not what you were saying, was it.
Anyway, it's too late now, I really ought to go to bed now. As I already said, I might come back for more of this tomorrow. Maybe. Anyway, interesting thread, ta.0 -
Anyone who measure their class by what/how much they consume or how they talk is a sad f**ker.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

Britain must be the only country bar India in the world where you could have 222+ posts on what class you are.
Most people in most places don't think of themselves in that way. It's quite peculiar.
PS Middle class born to parents that were born into the working classes but who worked their way out/up.0 -

Once you've mastered them all, you're officially just Scottish.
Briliant HamishI would also like to point out that our adults chavs are called neds and our mini neds are calleds nits (Neds In Training). When they have passed all the above they graduate to becoming neds. Although with perhaps the exception of the 'porridge making' which mainly is the domain of the elderly, the health conscious or the frugal.
