Yes, I think it does matter.

If there was no visible indication of high emissions, why as Hintza mentioned, was the car taken into a garage for another test?.
How can people give advice without knowing all the relevant facts about the problem, what may have caused it, how it appeared etc.

Becasue the OP is looking for consumer advice, not mechanical advice. It has already been established that MOT station that carried out the first MOT was in error and the OP is looking for advice on what their rights are and how to proceed with any potential action against the repairers.

There seems to be a growing trend on MSE, to first criticise the OP, for either making a mistake in their purchase, or blaming them for the faults that occur later, before offering any practical advice on how to help them; which is what I assumed this site was all about.

    Hmm...

The OP hasn't explained things too well. Perhaps it would be a good idea to wait for them to clarify things rather than discuss "maybe's".

Crikey, the engine failure light goes on and off in the Panda with great regularity after the first £40 to plug into the machine with a free 2nd go I decided since water, oil levels etc were normal it was a faulty switch and it doesnt worry me anymore. Been through 3 MOTs since it came on.

So my original question still stands what is the problem with the car?

Has it? I must have missed that bit. All we know is that a fault has occurred that may be due to the work carried out by the first garage. We don't know if the sensor has failed (which if it has, isn't the fault of the garage, but it is their responsibility to rectify it), if it's a wiring fault, etc.

Care to point to one comment where the OP has been criticised. All people have done is to ask them to clarify certain points as to how the problem manifested itself.

    This is very funny. :rotfl::rotfl:

You took the time pick my post apart "IN BOLD" yet have not offered any "practical advice on how to help them".

I posted on two threads this morning on this board and you had a go at both my posts. So what is your problem?

You read my post. That is the problem I am having. There are far too many posters ready to criticise an OP before considering that their enquiry is genuine and they have not caused the problems they are asking advice on.

    OK guys... here's the thing...

You are having your very own "full and frank exchange of views" which is moving well away from the thread topic.

Please call a halt to it, and also please remember the Forum Guideline quoted below:-
Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue... a Guardian article recently “doffed its cap” to this forum as being the one place where consumers can collect together and fight back, our job is to help keep it that way.

My apologies for the confusion.. The car had an MOT in November, with no foreseen problems. The MOT failed on emmisions. The garage then replaced a sensor, did a retest and passed the MOT. After the MOT my son had increasing problems with starting his car and thought it might be the battery.. we eliminated that..then it developed a problem with the car cutting out. when he took it to another garage they did an emmisions test and it failed... when my son explained the MOT it had in November - failed emissions, sensor change etc.and that he has only done 500 miles, he was advised to go back to the original garage as it "seems" the original problem was not fixed... hence needing the advice on how to "discuss" this issue with original garage..

I would have preferred some help rather than in fighting... I have got the advice from elsewhere thanks.
