I always use TMPGEnc and just work directly from the vob files without renaming them
Cyberlink Power Director 3.0 - the bundled version I have doesn't recognise vob files so I can't import them to edit unless I rename as mpg. The renamed files play OK in Media Player Classic but lose sound when imported and previewed.

There's plenty of programs about it's just that it would have been nice to be able to trim Vobs - just by renaming - without additional software - but without the sound loss problem.
When I have more time I'll investgate further.0 -

Is that really true? Do you lose anything in the quality of the recording?
I have some home movies that I have saved on to my DVD Recorder/HD and when I put them on to a DVD for editing on the PC they don't read because they are VOB.
I will be using either Pinnacle Studio 8 or DV Plus (or something like that)

Yes, just rename the file extension to .mpg and a lot of programs will recognise it. However the AC3 audio could cause problems.0
