This happened back in August and so far I haven't heard of anyone losing money over this theft. I doubt if the crime was carried out by someone intent on defrauding people's bank accounts. My guess it was just a straightforward burglary.

Your name and account number is printed on every cheque you send.
Do Nationwide put out an alert every time you send a cheque?
.......or is this just another piece of sensational journalism?

I'm sorry your post is a bit confusing. Are the pins and passwords on the laptop and the names and adds also or not?
  • I'm a Nationwide customer and I haven't had any trouble yet.

The reports I read said that personal identification details hadn't been on the stolen laptop, but names and accounts might have been.

I am sure there's not much to worry about, but having just read the credit report posts, worried people should check their credit report with that free credit report site annualcreditreport.co.uk. Apparently checking your credit report is a good way of checking if you have been ripped off by criminals.

  • I just checked the website address and it seems to be working fine.

I've had a look on my report I got from them a while back and my Nationwide bank and mortgage account are reported on there.

There's the credit checking companies you could try too, but I think you have to pay for them. I am not a fan of paying for things if I don't have to.

I am not too worried about being robbed, Iam sure Nationwide take our account security seriously.

I was a bit worried, but when I was looking on the internet about identity theft there were some articles about how in America very few people have been ripped off from company laptops being stolen, they reckon you are more likely to be robbed by losing your cards in the street, or a restaurant worker taking your details.
