Copper tape - does it work ?
Hi all, we have recently moved and my garden is going to be completely containers. I read on here somewhere that it can stop slugs and snails getting into pots, containers etc.
I have seen some on ebay that is a reasonable price, but don't want to waste my money if it doesn't work and I would stick to the usual slug pellets. Anyone used it successfully ? Thankyou.

Always worked reasonably well for me. I've also tried cutting the tape so that it's half the width and it still seems to work ok.
It's not foolproof - my neighbour reckons the slugs abseiled into his pots- but my containers seem to survive well enough and I don't use slug pellets. I've also tried making collars for border plants by cutting rings out of plastic bottles and wrapping the tape round, and that also seems to work for me.
If you do a search you'll find various threads on slugs, copper tape and various other suggestions. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Yes it does. You can also use copper wire. I use two bands of copper wire spaced 1/2" apart which works well and is much cheaper than the copper tape.0

Well I have raised beds made out of smart decking boards , veg path is very visible from house , so area must look tidy. I also had a number of lengths of copper tubing . A few 90 degree fittings and we soon had a copper tube running all round the top of the decking board. An expensive option , unless like me you already had the bits , but it looks great and seems to have worked.0

Another success here, I keep all pots at least 6 inches from any walls or fences and a few inches apart so that if one gets through into one container it can't use the pots as stepping stones and gorge on the lot!
The snails were a little more persistent but only 2 got through in the entire spring/summer last year, I put it on potato bags as well0 -
We use 2 rows of copper wire on our tubs and it never fails. No slugs since we started using itSPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

That just reminds me - I must think of putting the copper tape around my new raised beds. And I am going to get some nematoids this year and use them in them in the beds. I know, costly, but I am so fed up with them!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
